At Arbuthnot Latham, our Fund Research team is central to delivering high-quality insights that guide our Investment Committee. We’re looking to hire a Fund Research Manager or Fund Research Analyst, depending on experience. Your Role
You’ll support the Investment Committee in achieving a robust and sustainable long-term portfolio performance.
- As a Manager, you will be responsible for leading the ongoing development of fund selection processes and methodologies, recommending enhancements as and when required. You will also manage fund research PODs.
- As an Analyst, you’ll contribute to fund research efforts, organise POD workflows and support senior team members in delivering high-quality analysis.
In both roles, you’ll place customer outcomes at the centre of your work and ensure compliance with FCA and PRA Conduct Rules.
Both roles will have the following responsibilities:
Research & Analysis
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments of funds under consideration (ETFs, long-only funds, and alternatives).
- Maintain, enhance, and develop Arbuthnot Latham Investment Managent’s fund screens with a focus on macro and market variables.
- Collaborate with Asset Pods for ongoing fund monitoring and timely completion of research projects.
- Contribute to the development of structured fund research processes aligned with Arbuthnot’s investment philosophy.
- Originate or contribute investment ideas for the Investment Committee.
- Participate in fund manager interviews and contribute to internal due diligence.
- Ensure adherence to due diligence standards and maintain MI documentation for compliance and IC review.
- Collaborate with the investment research team to incorporate macroeconomic insights into fund selection.
- Participate in ad hoc projects as determined by the Head of Research.
Portfolio Risk & Analytics
- Collaborate with the Portfolio Risk and Analytics Manager to assist with the effective management of model portfolios.
Communications
- Contribute to internal and external research papers and articles.
Commercial
- Support Distribution teams in new business development and client retention.
Risk
- Manage risks inherent to the role by following internal policies and procedures.
A Fund Research Manager will have the following, additional, responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Lead the ongoing development of fund selection processes and methodologies.
- Manage fund research POD workflows (Analyst only organises).
- Coach and mentor junior analysts on fund research best practices.
- Attend Investment Committee meetings (up to Tactical Asset Allocation level) and act as the informational conduit for fund selection.
- Debate and clearly communicate fund research findings to the Investment Committee.
- Make formal recommendations to key stakeholders based on research insights.
- Represent Arbuthnot Latham in presentations to internal and external stakeholders, including for marketing purposes.
Key Interfaces
You’ll collaborate with:
- Internal teams: Investment Research, Wealth Management, Distribution, Compliance, Marketing, and Banking teams.
- External stakeholders: Fund managers, investment banks, research providers, clients, and intermediaries.
Person Specification
The following are core qualifications, skills, and experiences expected of both roles:
Experience & Knowledge
- Experience in fund research covering equity, fixed income, or alternative funds.
- Knowledge of funds, trusts, and ETFs across various asset classes and geographies.
- Experience working within a multi-asset environment and understanding of portfolio construction.
- Familiarity with ESG fund universe and UK IFA platform industry (advantageous).
- Experience using Morningstar Direct, Bloomberg, and FactSet.
- Understanding of macroeconomic and market factors influencing fund performance.
- Knowledge of modern portfolio theory and risk in portfolio construction.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong data analysis skills.
- Programming knowledge (e.g., Python) is a plus.

- Demonstrable experience leading fund research initiatives and methodologies.
- Strong qualitative fund research expertise, especially in assessing active fund managers.

- Proven ability to organise and manage fund research projects and POD workflows.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior analysts.
- Ability to make formal recommendations to stakeholders based on research insights.
