Summary & Purpose Of The Position

The Competitive & Strategic Intelligence (CSI) team within IPSEN is helping to support our portfolio and growth ambitions globally. The goal of this newly formed team is to enhance the organization’s understanding of the competitive environment and elevate competitive intelligence (CI) input to actionable insights so that organization can make faster and better decisions. This individual will be responsible for leading CI initiatives across certain therapeutic areas and acting as a strategic thought partner to Asset teams and leadership, as well as supporting corporate/enterprise CI initiatives in alignment with the Global Head of CSI.

In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional Global Asset Teams and US Commercial/Medical colleagues to deliver competitor strategic analysis that provides a comprehensive overview of the market and competition, draw implication/insights in order provide the voice of the competition, support key decision points, elevate competitive insights and analysis to the Executive Leadership team, and more.

This is a secondment/internal assignment position for 12 months supporting our rare disease assets.

Main Responsibilities & Technical Competencies

The role requires:

  • Develop CSI Operating plan(s) for key TAs of interest, identify key competitive threats for core areas and align onthreat prioritization with team and Head of CSI, brainstorm and develop KIQs/KITs based on program strategy and strategic decisions, identify competitive analyses needed to support program(s)
  • In consultation with the Global Head of CSI, prioritise requests for CI support according to strategic priorities,geography, and product maturity
  • Conduct secondary research and monitoring of high and medium competitive threats, as well as emerging competitors/class of therapies—provide competitive insights/analysis in a timely and digestible manner to leadership and key stakeholders through notes and presentations
  • Develop and continuously update competitive landscape and estimated competitor timelines (and variousscenarios), and present monthly/quarterly to cross functional teams and leadership as needed
  • Develop and continuously update competitor catalyst tracker reflecting upcoming competitor milestones andinflection points
  • Manage and define priorities for external CI firms for primary CI and limited secondary competitive ad hoc researchand analysis
  • Develop competitor strategic analysis to support program and key decision points (threat assessments, blind-spotanalysis, 4-corners analysis, Porters 5 forces, early warning system, etc)
  • Design, organize, and support cross functional competitive simulations with relevant stakeholders to developpotential responses to competitor scenarios
  • Provide regular updates to Asset Teams of competitor activities with insights on their expected impact to IPSEN’sbusiness and portfolio
  • Develop a strategic understanding of business issues in order to enhance proactive input into therapy areastrategic and tactical decision making
  • Ensure appropriate CI coverage of key congresses (pre, during, post) within the therapy space, synthesizing and collecting intelligence and presenting conference planner, daily debriefs, conference report, etc to cross functional teams and leadership
  • Leverage and maintain up to date competitive insights in internal CSI platforms, and support democratization of CI
  • Identify and partner with external CI firms to conduct primary CI and leverage internal CI analysis to “paint a picture” of the competition and potential insights and implications
  • Develop and foster strong, sustainable relationships with Asset Teams, Global and US Medical/Commercial TA Leads, Global Strategic Insights, US Insights, Investor Relations, Strategic Business Excellence, and Global Product & Portfolio Strategy stakeholders, as well as external CI firms
  • Leverage AI tools to support CI research and analysis, as well as optimize core deliverables

Knowledge & Experience

Knowledge & Experience (essential):

  • A minimum of 7+ years in biopharma, healthcare, life sciences, equity/investment research, strategic consultingwith a strong understanding of science, drug development, and biopharma commercialization
  • A critical and innovative thinker who can leverage data-driven CI to influence leaders and stakeholders, and impactthe business
  • Strong capability in leading and managing competitive intelligence initiatives to support program strategy anddecisions (strategic CI thought partner to Asset Lead/Program “CEO”, cross functional stakeholders, and leadership)
  • Prior CI experience across Ipsen’s therapeutic areas is desirable - Oncology, Neuroscience and Rare Disease
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities in aggregating information from multiple sources to develop hypothesesand recommendations; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong credibility in the Global environment across a range of functions and geographical locations

Knowledge & Experience (preferred)

  • Strong understanding of clinical data, regulatory frameworks, trial design, pharma launch/commercialization, LCM strategy

Education / Certifications (essential)

  • PhD, PharmD, MD/MBBS, DMD/DDS, MS, MBA level education

Language(s) (essential)

  • Fluent in English written and verbal communication
