We are looking for a highly motivated Graduate Mechanical Development Engineer to join our Engineering team to design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies used in its manufacture.

The successful candidate will design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies for a single molecule detection platform and equipment used in its manufacture. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal part in the process of designing a new generation of Nanopore-based electronic systems for analysis of single molecules, including DNA, RNA and proteins.

Responsibilities, Working Alongside Senior Engineers To Include

  • Design and development of mechanical systems including layout design through to detailed design and evaluation
  • Development of functional areas including sourcing prototypes for feasibility tests, validation, debugging and rapid development
  • Supporting and troubleshooting the introduction of new products and in particular pilot batches into manufacturing
  • Design and build manufacturing and automated solutions to support the main product
  • Hands-on tasks such as operating prototype machinery and testing within a laboratory environment


What We're Looking For...

Recent graduate with a relevant Mechanical Engineering degree. Familiar with Mechanical CAD systems (Solid Works, ProE or Catia) and ideally have skills and knowledge of some or all of the following:

  • Design for manufacture
  • Design of mechanisms
  • Design methodologies used in fluidics control
  • Design of moulded parts
  • Some work experience in a similar field, fluidics/biotec/medical devices


This role will suit someone who enjoys taking an innovative yet logical approach and who can work independently while still being a team player.
