Description

Step into the dynamic University of Sunderland, a catalyst for transformation and innovation. We're more than an institution; we're a force that empowers diverse students, with campuses in Sunderland, London, and Hong Kong. Ranked among the Top 50 UK Universities by the Guardian University Guide 2023, we're committed to driving change.

About the Role

As Head of Communications, you're the storyteller of our journey. Reporting to the Director of External Relations, you'll craft and share our narrative with internal and external audiences, advancing our strategic plan and bolstering our reputation.

In this pivotal role, you'll lead external and internal communications, stakeholder engagement, and corporate events. Your strategic guidance will resonate across the University, advising the Vice-Chancellor, Executive Team, and Senior Leadership Board.

You'll connect with staff, students, media, and stakeholders, while teaming up with local partners for a bigger impact. Craft creative campaigns, handle inside news, ensure smooth events like Graduations, and step in during crises. You'll also oversee key publications and stay up-to-date with education trends.

About you

Are you a seasoned communicator ready for your next exciting challenge?

We're on the lookout for someone adept at crafting and executing communication strategies for diverse audiences. Collaborating with senior leaders to drive impactful campaigns, boosting reputation and corporate profiles, is key. Your skill in building and nurturing corporate and public affairs relationships will be a driving force.

Your organisational prowess in event management, coupled with your media savvy in engaging journalists at various levels, will set you apart. A proven history of cultivating strong local and national external relations, as well as involvement in external steering groups and relevant professional associations, would be fantastic. While not essential, a background in Higher Education or connections with relevant Professional Bodies can certainly give your application an edge.
