Our Chief Operating Office (COO) are the backbone of The AA, providing both stability and structure to support growth and innovation. We are the drivers of change.

This is the job

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Digital Portfolio Delivery to lead and oversee a portfolio of change initiatives aligned with our Digital and Customer Group strategy. This role involves working closely with stakeholders across the organisation to prioritise, define, and execute a roadmap of change that enhances customer outcomes and delivers sustained business value within agreed governance frameworks and budget allocation.

Within the role you will lead the Digital ‘front door’ process, identify synergies and continual improvement opportunities to refresh and strengthen the operating model. This position requires a strong blend of strategic thought and hands-on activities to drive forward our Digital strategy.

What will I be doing?

  • Engage and form strong relationships with stakeholders, including up to Executive Board level, to create, influence, and maintain a roadmap of change initiatives aligned with business priorities and OKRs for the Digital function.
  • Lead and oversee all financial aspects of the portfolio, including project spend, headcount, and external spend, accounting for up to £20m of Capex and up to £5m of Opex.
  • Review, refine, and embed processes for tracking key activities across Digital and wider teams, ensuring one source of truth for milestones, issues, and dependencies.
  • Build and develop relationships with leadership teams, ensuring their interests are accurately represented and championed within the wider Technology community.
  • Identify and overcome challenges with prioritisation and delivery expectations by building flexible resource models and developing innovative solutions to planning.
  • Lead and develop a team of business analysts, project managers, and PMO analysts to become a best-in-class function.

What do I need?

  • Proven success in leading transition and transformation in complex organisations, with the ability to simplify complex issues and articulate a vision that gains support at all levels.
  • Strong budget management experience (Opex and Capex), commercially astute, and able to negotiate with partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Effective communication, motivation, influence, and leadership skills, with the ability to work at both operational and strategic levels.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills to form and maintain relationships across the business and IT, with a strong understanding of the external market, innovation, and tech trends.
  • Strategic thinker with attention to both the big picture and details, demonstrating customer obsession, and possessing advanced communication skills to influence, lead, and negotiate.
  • Proactive self-starter with high emotional intelligence, able to work under pressure, multitask, prioritize, and thrive in ambiguous situations.
