Responsible for the strategic growth of our Fixed Income desk, enhancing trading performance, and bolstering our leadership in the London market. The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for managing both the Long End and Short End desks, alongside the mandate to explore and expand into new FI strategies. As part of the senior management team, you will also play a crucial role in shaping our firm’s broader strategy and ensuring our FI trading activities are aligned with Mako’s goals for innovation and profitability.
The role will be based in London but will also have direct reports in Amsterdam.
What you’ll be involved in:
Working closely with the Head of Trading, you will be responsible for:
- Desk Management: Oversee the Fixed Income desks, ensuring optimal performance across various asset classes. Provide leadership and guidance to traders and analysts, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Team Leadership & Development: Leading teams of traders, setting clear goals and performance metrics. Offer mentorship, training, and career development opportunities to ensure continuous professional growth within the team.
- Trading Strategies: Refine existing strategies and develop new ones to broaden and increase the group’s revenue.
- Risk Management: Proactively manage risk exposure across all desks, ensuring that trades adhere to the firm’s risk appetite and regulatory guidelines. Monitor real-time risk levels, and work closely with the risk team to identify and mitigate any potential issues.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations, technology, and compliance to ensure the needs of your traders are met. Maintain strong communication channels with other global trading desks to align on market views and strategies.
- Performance Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior leadership regarding trading desk performance, market conditions, and any challenges or opportunities. Leverage data and analytics to track desk profitability and provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
- Technology & Innovation: Stay informed on emerging technologies, market trends, and trading platforms. Lead efforts to incorporate innovative solutions into the trading process, enhancing both efficiency and profitability.
Role Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Fixed Income (FI) options trading.
- At least 3 years of experience in leading and managing traders, with a proven ability to mentor junior traders effectively.
- A strong intellectual curiosity and a commitment to consistently improving both individual performance and team dynamics in all aspects of trading.
- Committed to an approach which fosters accountability within teams, with a focus on clear communication and collaborative interaction with senior leadership.
