This is an exciting time to join the Oxford PV journey as we continue to grow and enter the commercial market. To support this evolution, we are looking for an experienced lawyer to join our team as Head of Legal.
As Head of Legal you will play an integral role in our company, serving as our primary advisor on all legal matters. You will possess broad legal knowledge and expertise, with a strong background in contract law, intellectual property, compliance, and risk management. This role requires previous experience in an in-house legal position, exposure to legal practices in the UK, US, and Europe, and experience of working on cross-jurisdictional matters.
What will you be doing?
As the Head of Legal you will be responsible for delivering high quality and astute advice on all aspects of the business.
Your responsibilities include:
- Providing pragmatic commercial and strategic legal advice to the Company’s executives and management team.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts and agreements entered into by the company.
- Supporting strategic commercial initiatives/new business development
- Ensuring that the company complies with relevant laws and regulations in its operations and business activities.
- Identifying and managing legal risks that the company may face and implementing strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Leading legal disputes and litigation, including collaborating closely with outside legal counsel where necessary.
- Leading due diligence activities related to business transactions.
- Managing relationships with outside legal counsel to ensure comprehensive and cost-efficient legal support to all areas of the business.
- Developing and implementing legal policies and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure best practices.
- Conducting legal research and providing training to staff on legal issues and compliance matters.
- Managing the legal budget.
- Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders
This role is based in our Oxfordshire office in the UK with regular travel to our other sites.
What will you need to succeed in the role?
Essential skills:
- A qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5 year’s post qualification experience and preferably prior in-house experience in a comparable role.
- Strong background in contract law, intellectual property, compliance, and risk management.
- Exposure to legal practices in the UK, US, and Europe and experience of working on cross-jurisdictional matters.
- The ability to understand the company's business objectives and align legal strategies with overall business goals.
- The capacity to think strategically and provide legal advice that supports the long-term goals and objectives of the company, anticipating legal issues and providing proactive solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address legal challenges creatively and find practical solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with internal stakeholders, such as executives, employees, and board members, as well as external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory authorities, and legal partners.
- The capacity to make informed and timely decisions.
- The ability to proactively identify legal risks and put in place a strategy to mitigate these.
- Highly adaptable and organised with strong attention to detail
- The ability to present complex information to a range of audiences.
Desirable skills:
- The ability to demonstrate a passion for our business and embrace our vision of supporting the transition to a world powered by clean energy.
- Good knowledge of written and spoken German.
