What to expect

The Head of Portfolio Controls and Profession is a senior member of the Transformation & Portfolio Office Team, responsible for the development and delivery of functional strategies, role always modelling the Post Office behaviours and demonstrating a Postmaster first mindset.

The Head of Portfolio Controls and Profession will lead the establishment and management of the portfolio control strategy and framework for a complex, high-impact transformational change portfolio. This role will ensure robust control, assurance and oversight, and effective support of executive decision-making and successful delivery of strategic outcomes.

They will lead the PMO Controls Profession, ensure effective career path management and the professionalisation of the PMO skills group. They will drive a culture of inclusion, continuous improvement, and high performance in the teams they lead, delivering and driving decision-making across the Business, Customers and Partners.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Professional certifications such as MoP (Management of Portfolios), PgMP, MSP, APM or PMP
  • Membership of appropriate professional body
  • Demonstrable experience leading large teams: collaborating with senior leaders, to shape and deliver functional strategy to achieve business objectives
  • Substantial experience convening multiple stakeholders and through successful relationships, leading key cross-functional projects to drive results across the organisation
  • Experience in leading and driving change aligned to functional and business strategies
  • Proven experience in a senior portfolio/programme controls role ideally within complex transformation environment, including the development of a robust control’s strategy & framework
  • Comprehensive experience and knowledge of best practice in programme controls discipline including the use of techniques such as earned value management, schedule risk analysis, critical path analysis, and their applicability in both a waterfall and agile environment
  • Demonstrable experience in enterprise-level risk management, planning, financial control, and assurance
  • Experience with portfolio management tools (e.g., Clarity PPM, Planview, MS Project Online, Jira)
