Q-IDs cannot be photocopied, can be put on anything and can be authenticated with any smartphone. Our largest client is a prestigious security printer that is using Q-IDs for a government tax stamp programme. The first target markets are security printers, tax stamps and brand protection. About the Role

The Head of Software Engineering will be responsible for leading and managing a multidisciplinary engineering team, with a tech stack spanning (in order of importance to this role)

• Mobile development (iOS & Android)
• Cloud platforms (mainly AWS
• Advanced algorithm development (Python)
• Machine Learning
• Web App (ASP.Net, JavaScript on Azure)
• Desktop App (Python)

While this is a senior leadership position, given our small size, we require someone who is happy to remain hands on, working side by side to coach engineers and deliver code. You’ll drive technical excellence, foster innovation, encourage continual improvement and deliver high-quality software solutions. Including:

• Strategic technical leadership
• Define the technical vision and strategy for software development in alignment with business objectives.
• Oversee the development and deployment of scalable, high-performing applications and platforms.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
• Manage, mentor, and inspire a team that includes engineers, machine learning specialists, mathematicians and physicists.
• Support talent acquisition, retention, and development to ensure a high-performing team.
• Technical Oversight
• Provide hands-on technical guidance for complex software development projects.
• Ensure best practices in software development, including code quality, testing and automation.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and ensure successful delivery.

Key experience

• Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Expertise across our mobile stack (mobile engineering, iOS, Android, AWS, Python, Machine Learning).
• Strong engineering skills based on fundamentals such as SOLID, TDD.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have experience

• A background in science, especially physics or mathematics
