We're proud to be a top 50 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2023), with top-quality facilities, inclusive culture, and our vibrant, ever-changing city.

Join our team as the Head of Student Casework, here at the University of Sunderland! We're on the lookout for an experienced and innovative candidate to take charge of this newly created role.

About the role

As the head of our expanded team, you'll lead the management and investigation of various student-related cases, including complaints, academic appeals, disciplinary issues, academic integrity, misconduct, and fitness to practice. Working closely with the Registry Senior Management Team and other senior colleagues, you'll play a vital role in shaping the student experience.

Your responsibilities will be diverse and impactful. You'll personally lead on University complaint reviews, cases with the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education, fitness to practice assessments, and complex and challenging cases. Collaborating with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Deans, Heads of Schools, and other stakeholders, you'll provide top-notch advice and support.

As a key member of the University's Incident Management Team, you'll work closely with colleagues responsible for student well-being, security, press, and accommodation. Additionally, maintaining our strong relationship with the Students' Union on casework issues will be a part of your role. In this position, you'll also join our group focusing on safeguarding, prevent, and sexual violence and misconduct, playing a pivotal role in policy development on the latter.

About you

We're looking for a true leader, someone who can inspire and guide a growing team of professional investigators, caseworkers, and administrative support. Your leadership skills are essential, but we also value your commitment to continuously developing and enhancing them.

You will possess substantial knowledge and experience across various casework functions and the external regulatory landscape. You'll be confident, capable, and resilient, ready to tackle even the most challenging cases with grace and composure. If you're passionate about making a difference and leading a dynamic team towards success, we want to hear from you!
