Standard Hours (inc shift pattern): 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
BMI UK&I have an exciting permanent opportunity for a HR Business Partner - Manufacturing to join our team.
Role Summary
HR Business Partner (HRBP) is a key HR Leadership role within the BMI UK & Ireland business and responsible to support our Manufacturing function through a period of significant transformation. This role is critical in driving people strategies that align with business objectives, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring a strong employee relations framework. The HRBP acts as leadership coach, strategic partner, and change agent and manages and resolves complex employee relations issues, guides on and assists in performance improvement, and conducts related issues.
The HRBP will also be a trusted advisor to site and functional leadership teams, championing change, talent development, and engagement initiatives. The HRBP provides effective HR operational services and advice to functional leaders, managers, and staff to support the delivery of BMI's organisational objectives and outcomes while working closely with other functions within HR as well as the Global HR team.
The HRBP will lead a small team of HR Managers across multiple sites, providing strategic direction, coaching, and development to the individuals in this team. Additionally, the role will be a key member of the local HR Leadership Team, contributing to the overall people strategy for the business.
As the HR Business Partner, your key responsibilities will be:
- Advise and support manufacturing leaders and their direct reports in all people-related topics and act as a sparring partner.
- Provide day-to-day support to front line and senior level leaders and employees
- Partner with the business on organisational design, workforce planning, talent management, succession planning and skills assessment
- Building capability in the function through recruitment or upskilling
- Demonstrate ownership and accountability of decisions/recommendations made by HR when working with the UK manufacturing team.
Strategic HR Leadership
- Partner with senior manufacturing leaders to develop and execute a people strategy that aligns with business objectives.
- Lead HR initiatives to support organizational transformation, cultural change, and operational excellence.
- Drive workforce planning, organizational design, and change management programs across the UK manufacturing sites as well as the depots including central UK manufacturing team.
- Partner with the HR Director while being part of the local HR Leadership team to drive relevant initiatives in the function aligned to the wider strategic transformation plan.
Employee Relations
- Build a comprehensive end to end Employee Relations framework and strategy including managing Union relationships.
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for complex employee relations (ER) cases, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and best practices.
- Build strong relationships with site leadership teams and employee representatives to drive positive industrial relations.
- Lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention, and productivity.
Culture & Employee Engagement
- Lead initiatives to evolve the manufacturing team culture in line with BMI Winning Mindset and ensuring alignment with the organization’s core values and business goals.
- Champion the embedding of the Winning Mindsets across all sites, driving engagement, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose.
- Develop and implement culture-building programs, leadership behaviors, and recognition initiatives to enhance workplace morale and performance.
- Partner with leadership teams to embed a high-performance culture, reinforcing accountability, agility, and innovation.
Talent & Capability Development
- Lead and partner with relevant central teams to upskill leaders and frontline teams, ensuring readiness for future business needs.
- Support succession planning and leadership development to strengthen the talent pipeline within manufacturing operations.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Drive BMI's Annual People Circle (People & Organisation Review, Annual Compensation Review, Performance and Development)
- Oversee HR processes, including performance management, compensation reviews, and policy implementation for the relevant function.
- Ensure all HR initiatives comply with employment laws, health & safety regulations, and diversity & inclusion best practices.
- Provide HR metrics, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership of the function to support decision-making.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop the HR Managers across the manufacturing sites, ensuring alignment with HR and business priorities.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to HR teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- As part of the HRLT, drive wider team coaching and development.
The role requires close coordination and collaboration with the Country HR Teams as well as with all other central HR functions.
Your Key Skills And Experience Will Include
- Proven experience (10+ years) as a strategic HR Business Partner in a manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environment.
- Experience leading a team of HR professionals, ideally across multiple sites.
- Strong expertise in employee relations, industrial relations, and UK employment law.
- Experience driving organizational change, cultural transformation, and workforce planning.
- Track record of working in a multi-site environment with a mix of blue-collar and professional employees.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Experience organisational development and design projects will be an added advantage.
- Strategic mindset: Ability to align HR initiatives with long-term business goals.
- Strong leadership skills: Experience managing HR teams and driving team performance.
- Change management expertise: Capable of leading HR initiatives in a transforming business environment.
- People-first approach: Passionate about employee engagement and fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Analytical & data-driven: Ability to use HR metrics to drive decisions and improvements.
