We are looking for a HR Support Apprentice to join our HR team. For this entry level position, previous experience is not essential, but a candidate needs to show a genuine interest in a career in HR.
You will gain a good introduction into HR, combining study with practical experience, leading to a nationally recognised qualification. You'll need to have good communication and customer service skills, a commitment to confidentiality and data protection, and an enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
The role
As an apprentice in the HR team, you will carry out a diverse range of tasks, supporting approximately 900+ staff who are based from our offices in England and Wales.
You will gain the knowledge, skills and experience to launch a future career in HR. With the support of colleagues in the HR team, the apprentice will focus on a range of transactional HR activity relating to the employee lifecycle such as:
- Transactional HR activity relating to the complete employee lifecycle
- Understanding our HR policies and how they are applied and responding to queries
- Creating and maintaining accurate and up to date employee records including the filing and administration of electronic files and ensure compliance with data processing legislation and retention schedules
- Responding to questions about things like terms and conditions of employment, pay, holiday and other forms of leave, flexible working requests, long term sickness, benefits administration, exit process, starters, movers, leavers etc
- Working with colleagues on ad hoc projects and annual employee life cycle activities such as administration of performance development reviews, pay review process, Flexible Benefits Enrolment, EDI projects etc.
- Creating and issuing contracts of employment for new starters, coordinating relevant employment checks such as DBS checks, right to work in the UK and identity checks, issuing references.
- Inputting and maintaining data in HR systems and providing support to the team through the checking and validation of these changes during the monthly payroll process.
- Working with colleagues on mapping and improving HR processes
- Producing Management Information and ad hoc requests for reports
- Supporting with ad hoc administration activities like raising purchase orders

- qualified to GCSE grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths (minimum)
- able to work flexibly and independently
- able to start this apprenticeship in early March 2024

- confident and capable with IT
- alive to the need for confidentiality and able to apply this in practise and in accordance with Data Protection legislation

- an excellent communicator - both written and oral
- an effective multi-tasker who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change at short notice
- experience of working in HR is not essential - however a genuine interest in pursuing a career in HR is important
Qualifications on successful completion
- Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship standard
- CIPD Certificate in People Practise
Things you need to know before applying
- We have a hybrid working model. You will typically work part of the week from home and part from the office. You might also occasionally be required travel to other locations in England and Wales.
- You will be enrolled on a Level 3 HR Support apprenticeship with a leading training provider so you will need to meet certain eligibility criteria such as:
- We'll pay your CIPD membership fees.
- You will be required to undergo new hire checks, which include identity, criminal records, financial check and right to work in the UK.
