Role Summary
The overall purpose of this position will be to provide implementation support for Russell's global multi-manager/asset/alternatives business, contributing to the overall strategy development and implementation for portfolios. The position will be a heavy consumer of financial technologies and offer the chance to collaborate closely with other teams across our global financial services business. Daily functions include, but are not limited to validating portfolio information, analysing portfolios in relation to market movements and product specifications, recommending and negotiating implementation options with portfolio managers, and coordinating trade execution. In addition, the Implementation Portfolio Manager will initiate conversations with external investment managers to discuss, arrange and agree trading details. The Implementation Portfolio Manager will contribute to overall strategy development and implementation for portfolios to help generate superior investment performance in Russell Investments’ funds and separate accounts.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
Portfolio management
- Provides liquidity analysis, exposure analysis and implementation recommendations to Russell Portfolio Managers.
- Accountable for day-to-day implementation of physical and derivatives strategies as instructed by Portfolio Managers.
- Adjusts daily exposures and implements operational policies within parameters set by the Head of Portfolio Implementation.
- Creates and may execute orders and ensures timely implementation and execution.
Implementation
- Key resource for the implementation for those asset classes with real-time coordination / facilitation with internal and/or external parties (portfolio analysts, portfolio managers, traders, investment managers, external fund administrations, custodians and brokers).
- Contributes to overall strategy development and implementation for portfolios to help generate superior investment performance in Russell funds and separate accounts.
Team support
- Provides support to the Head of IPM team as it relates to the improvement of the new and existing operational infrastructure for all asset classes, including portfolio viewing, implementation and analytics.
- Stays informed of market events and guides portfolio managers in their implementation decisions.

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
- CFA or progress towards charter preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related technical field or equivalent experience / qualifications.
- Relevant experience in the financial services, preferred trading and investment operations or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of securities markets with background in Multi-Asset trading and Alternatives.
- Understanding of equity, fixed income, and/or foreign exchange investment process.
- Exposure to trading, operational and/or funds environment.
- Understanding of custodian and investment accounting processes.
- Actively works to enhance existing processes through research and systematisation of value-adding investment techniques.
- Ability to work under pressure, and to work on different projects simultaneously.
- Able to utilise quantitative analysis to build conviction in investment insights and return sources, and to support robust portfolio management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate and work with all manner of team members in a conscientious and inclusive way.
