Brief Description

As a Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Advisor, you'll be at the heart of our operations, working flexibly across a 24/7 railway environment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our workforce. This is predominately a site-based role covering the Darlington and York Patch and is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic settings, can work flexibility with varied challenges and rewards and enjoys managing a fast paced operational business’ key safety risks.
This role will be perfect for someone who is a confident communicator who is able to build rapport with everyone they meet from frontline staff to senior leaders. They will be able to continually learn, expand their knowledge base and adapt key safety information to articulate this on site and in management meetings. This role requires someone who will lead by example with high safety standards at all times and continually look to help others reach those standards.
About The Role (External)
Your key responsibilities will include;
- Helping to provide daily guidance to frontline teams and leadership on health, safety, and environmental matters.
- On site assurance to review our safety management systems are implemented and working, focusing on the importance on the front line teams feedback and support to the workforce.
- Identify key health, safety, and environmental risks, identify trends and implement practical, risk based control measures.
- Support the route with key safety initiatives and campaigns.
- Support the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents, focusing on human factors and ensuring compliance with internal safety procedures and producing strong lessons learnt.
Desirable Qualifications
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent.*
- Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes.
- Understanding of environmental management systems.
- Familiarity with the operational railway environment.
- Analytical capability and experience in accident and incident investigation.
- Coaching techniques and strong interpersonal skills.
- While a working knowledge of the railway and safety is preferable, it is not essential. However if you do not have the NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent you must be willing to progress to this as part of our safety competency framework. We provide on-the-job and formal training to help you succeed.
