Job Purpose
United Utilities is committed to achieving integrated water management within the five counties of the North West of England, to benefit customers, society and the environment and has set out ambitious plans for partnership working as part of the PR24 business plan. This commitment has brought an exciting opportunity for a Business Analyst to join the Integrated Water Management team and work across United Utilities and with partner organisations to support the delivery of this approach.
The successful Analyst will work directly with an Integrated Water Manager and will drive and lead the analysis of internal and external data to support the delivery of Integrated Water Management planning in a county/ies. They will work within the wider Integrated Water Management team and collaborate with other teams in United Utilities, as well as with external partner organisations to drive our Catchment Systems Thinking (CaST) approach.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
In support of the Integrated Water Management vision, this role will support and co-ordinate the delivery of placed based planning activities across the region including:
- Support the IWM team and stakeholders to identify collaborative opportunities by producing data and maps that overlap various internal and external datasets
- Support the Integrated Water Manager through running queries, producing reports and creating slide pack materials in a timely manner
- Support the reporting of partnership working through updating the Partnership Opportunity Pipeline with new opportunities or progress of existing
- Support the delivery of workshops through data analysis, interpretation and production of materials
- Provide analysis of spatial data through the appropriate mapping software and determining the best way to represent it visually to stakeholders (internal and external) who may be non-technical
- Identify and obtain additional (or new) datasets that could be used to support analysis
- Review and update a programme data catalogue for the county/ies, including programme data from other organisations
- Create new spatial data sets by geographically representing data, as well as through digitising spatial information for use in geo-spatial analyses
- Quality assurance and process documentation of the data sources
- Prioritise the data and develop routines to create integrated opportunities against pre-defined objectives
- Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders and embrace partnership working
- Ensuring that the activities listed above are delivered on time and to a high quality. This role requires working with external partners and key stakeholders across the organisation.
Technical Skills & Experience
- Excellent data and information handling and analytical skills to draw appropriate conclusions from relevant data.
- Excellent skills in Excel, Power Bi, Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and be comfortable dealing with people externally and from across the organisation
- Excellent problem solver who can independently find solutions to complex problems and requests
- Good organisational skills to ensure that work is prioritised and managed through to completion.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good level of experience and understanding of working within United Utilities
- Ability to complete tasks on time
