Job Purpose


This is an exciting opportunity to be part of delivering impactful change by embedding an Integrated Water Management approach within UU and collaborating closely with partners in a geography of the North West on water management challenges and planning. You will need a strong technical understanding and the ability to form close relationships with partners across the North West creating a complete joined up approach.


  • Lead the delivery of Integrated Water Management capability for UU in a county/ies.
  • Lead the development/ continuation of strong partnership working in a county/ies with responsibility for the health and direction of at least one strategic partnership.
  • Lead the strategic direction on behalf of UU in a county/ies with relevant partners.
  • Lead a small team working within a county/ies to understand partners’ strategic priorities, risks and opportunities alongside our own, aligning interests and developing opportunity pipelines for potential partnership working.
  • Focal lead for a component of the partnership working capability and driving the maturity across the whole region towards the long term target and vision.
  • Work for the Head of Integrated Water Management and deputise when required.


There are two roles and they will focus on either Cumbria/Lancashire or Merseyside/Cheshire. Please state your location preference on your application.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities


  • A degree or post graduate qualification in a relevant discipline, or degree calibre with significant relevant experience.
  • Significant experience of collaborative working with both internal and external stakeholders and partner organisations
  • Experienced at programme planning and management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate an ability to influence and inspire others
  • A good understanding of the wide range of plans for water such as DWMP, WRMP, RBMP, FRMP as well as water policy
  • A good understanding of the operation of the water, wastewater systems and the interaction with other drainage systems and the natural environment


Technical Skills & Experience


  • Desirable to be Chartered or working towards chartership (CIWEM or equivalent)
