The role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Integrated Workforce team in Mid Wales. As a valued team member, you will work alongside dedicated professional workforce staff, contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of Natural Resources Wales (NRW) assets. Your role will involve a variety of tasks across Mid Wales, from maintaining vital flood defence embankments and outfalls to supporting forestry and nature reserve projects, depending on business needs.
A key aspect of this role is providing a professional emergency response service. As part of this, you will participate in a standby rota and deliver out-of-hours support. NRW is a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act (2004). your contribution will be crucial in safeguarding communities and the environment.
This position offers a 9-day fortnight working pattern, (alternating between a 4-day and 5-day week), giving you every other Friday off.
You will collaborate closely with colleagues within your team who are engaged in similar tasks, while also having the opportunity to work independently in the field.
As part of your role, you will interact with members of the public and individuals from other organisations, addressing basic queries and representing Natural Resources Wales in a professional and approachable manner.
Your work will take you to a variety of sites, (i.e.) outdoor environments. Some of these settings may present challenging weather conditions, you will be fully equipped with appropriate training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to carry out your duties safely and confidently.
This role requires traveling to different locations, including NRW offices and sites, across Mid Wales.

What you will do
- You will provide a manual labour service for the maintenance of NRW assets which include flood risk assets and NRW managed land.
- You will have the ability to operate equipment such as hand-held tools which may include chainsaws.
- You will have the ability to operate as a banksman and slinger/signaller.
- You will have the ability to understand technical and utility plans and operate in compliance with the Construction Design and Management Regulations.
- You will be a user of small plant and machinery i.e. Aebi/Reform, pedestrian mowers, woodchippers etc.
- You will be part of an incident response team. Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

Your Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge And Skills
In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method .
- Relevant Operators licences for tools, machinery and plant or work towards achieving.
- IOSH Working Safely.
- ICT competence (basic level).
- Emergency First Aid +F.
- Previous forestry, construction, agricultural, environmental or plant operators experience is desirable.
- This is a physically demanding role so reasonable levels of fitness are required.
- Confident working in and near water.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills are required for the role. GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English and Maths are essential.
- Full UK driving licence ideally to include cat B + E (trailer tow).
Welsh Language Level Requirements
- Essential: Level A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
