Overall Summary

Join Close Brothers Investment team to develop and deliver a broad range of communications to help CBAM achieve its business goals, by working with investment teams, client-facing colleagues and marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Write original content on broad market commentaries, event-driven market perspectives, and other materials for all clients across all asset classes
  • Ensure the timely production of weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual and ad-hoc economic and investment reports to a high standard of quality, accuracy and interest
  • Write simply, crisply and clearly with confidence, avoiding unnecessary jargon, with a knack for conveying complex ideas in relatable ways
  • Be able to adapt communication style and language depending on the audience (professional or retail) or medium (email, website, podcast, film scripting, etc)
  • Ensure consistency of style and message across all investment communications
  • Understand CBAM’s Strategic Asset Allocation and Tactical Asset Allocation process and how they relate to/inform the actual asset allocation, positioning and current market views of different investment teams, services and products
  • Keep up-to-date with the absolute and relative performance of key CBAM investment products and services
  • Support Fund Managers, Investment Directors, Investment Specialists, IFA Partnerships and Marketing with requests - ad hoc or periodic - for articles or comms., say on themes such as “income” or “gold” in particular strategies
  • Have a collaborative approach and be able to work effectively as a member of the investment team, attending investment meetings, such as the monthly Fixed Income Update or Equity Committee meeting, to stay fully apprised of key views
  • Introduce new thinking to the business by deploying insight, industry knowledge, and business understanding
  • Help start a bank of “evergreen” content which can be periodically refreshed and re-used
  • When necessary seek guidance from Investment Compliance to ensure all comms. produced meet regulatory guidelines for the intended audience
  • Potentially work with CBAM’s PR agency to inform the media strategy and provide reactive content and thought pieces as required
  • Be able to manage multiple projects and achieve deadlines in a fast-paced working environment, have good organisation skills and attention to detail, and still produce work of the highest standard.



WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE:

  • Five years’ professional writing experience working for an asset management company or similar organisation, including finance/investment-focused journalism and PR or investor relations
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proof-reading skills and experience
  • Likely to have a degree or professional qualification in a related field such as economics and/or a foundational level qualification in investments, though industry experience will be key
  • The ability to assimilate a high volume of information and distil it in a lucid, relatable and interesting way
  • A strong understanding of all the main asset classes (equity, fixed income, alternatives/diversifiers and cash), the roles they play and how they interact in a multi-asset portfolio
  • A strong understanding of capital markets, macroeconomics, policymaking, geo-politics
  • A strong understanding of different investment products, services and styles, including but not limited to single- and multi-asset funds, active and passive investing, multi-manager/third-party funds of funds, smaller UK companies, as well as factors such as “value, growth and momentum”
  • A sound and practical knowledge of planning strategies used by financial advisers and paraplanners on behalf of their clients, including for pensions, IHT planning, on- and off-shore investment bonds and personal taxation
