Overview:

Bayley and Sage is a small group of 13 independent stores filling the fridges and hearts of local communities across South West London. Our products reflect the best of the seasons, and we take pride in delivering superb food. As we are now expanding, we have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Buyer to join our team at Bayley & Sage.

You will be responsible for:

The complete end to end management of your given buying categories through delivery of specified cost, margin and other key delivery targets - such as wastage reduction, outstanding quality and excellent availability, whilst ensuring all back-office administration is updated and maintained.

The management of supplier relationships to ensure a continuous supply to our stores. The monitoring and advising of market trends, product and category innovation, competitor activity and potential new suppliers.

And doing all this whilst supporting our company values of respect, commitment, growth, and community.

About the Role:

  • To deliver excellence in range, quality, availability, cost management, margin delivery and wastage reduction.
  • Support the operations through excellent communication relating to product launches, supplier/availability issues, promotional and event planning, legislation changes etc.
  • Control the price and margin through good supplier negotiation and professional relationships. Negotiate new contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising buying best practice methods.
  • Identify opportunities within the range to further develop the Bayley & Sage own brand presence following strict brand guidelines.
  • Explore further cost saving opportunities through the likes of product tenders, supply base reviews, alternative supply routes and exploring direct to manufacturer/grower/producer relationships.
  • Ensure all instore marketing guidelines are followed and applied consistently across all areas.
  • Continually review and refresh the product offer through good performance analysis, identifying market trends, new product sourcing and the development of new categories.
  • Grow sale & profitability and reduce wastage by targeting poor performing departments, building on areas of growth and identifying new market trends.
  • Ensure ALL back-office systems are updated and maintained. This to include MYPOS, Avery Berkel, Bartender, Split and Stock and Order Sheets, etc.
  • Ensuring the departmental administration is maintained and kept up to date.

About you:

  • You'll have commercial buying experience.
  • Experience of managing cost models.
  • Report preparation and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and ordering systems.
  • Have a clear understanding of how to build a range, from selection through to pricing.
