The Perimeter Team is responsible for assessing the thousands of reports about potential unauthorised activity received each year, carrying out legal analysis and risk assessment, taking action to resolve matters where possible and identifying and escalating the most serious matters for full investigation and enforcement action through the courts. The team consists of 30 members of staff, including 3 other Lead Associates.
Reporting to the Perimeter Team Managers, the Lead Associate will be a highly credible technical expert on all perimeter legislation (including consumer credit and payment services), who is able to provide technical support to the team and be the first port of call on all complex unauthorised business matters. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will play a key role in directing future projects that come into the team and this may involve heading up and guiding small teams within the Perimeter Team that are tasked with delivering those projects. The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with each member of the team in an advisory and strategic capacity while also managing their own caseload. As well as having sound proven knowledge of the perimeter legislation, the Lead Associate will need strong judgement and decision-making skills, able to provide clear, practical guidance on how to progress challenging cases.
What will you be doing?
- Managing a busy workload of cases relating to a variety of unauthorised firms, including assessing reports of unauthorised activity, acting to resolve matters and issue alerts where appropriate
- Exploring unauthorised firm’s activities, managing high volumes of data coming into the team and drawing out and spotting trends within that data
- Having accountability for the delivery of proactive supervisory and project work, including developing strategies, processes, planning, proactive project management, methodology development and execution, proportionate risk mitigation and communication strategies
- Building, maintaining and developing effective relationships with stakeholders, including at a senior level, both internally and externally
- Overseeing the work of more junior team members to ensure effective progression of projects and tasks in order to reach timely outcomes, escalating issues to the manager where necessary
- Contributing to the implementation of the evolving supervisory approach and the embedding of new behaviours and culture aligned with the FCA Mission

Minimum
- Prior experience of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Regulated Activities) Order and other perimeter legislation and guidance
- Prior experience in any of the following areas: financial services or banking (including consumer credit), markets, insurance, serious fraud or other complex financial crime

- Ability to take responsibility for making timely choices based on relevant insights and willingness to exercise own judgement and support those judgements where necessary and appropriate including to senior management
