With continued growth in our pharmaceutical project portfolio, this Lead Process Engineer role presents an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative, site-based team in Barnard Castle. You will lead the delivery of varied and complex projects for a major blue-chip pharmaceutical client, taking responsibility from concept through to commissioning.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, this role offers the chance to shape innovative process engineering solutions and contribute to a broad range of projects, including studies, upgrades, and new production facilities. You’ll also mentor junior engineers and engage directly with client stakeholders to ensure best-in-class delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process engineering design from concept through to commissioning
  • Develop scopes, PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, heat & mass balances, and specifications
  • Perform calculations including pressure drop, pump sizing, and line sizing
  • Review vendor information and liaise with suppliers
  • Support and supervise junior engineers
  • Take part in and contribute to HAZOPs and other risk assessments
  • Engage in technical discussions and represent BakerHicks professionally on-site
  • Participate in commissioning and provide construction support
  • Oversee packages, equipment, and manage timelines and deliverables

Qualifications

About You

  • Degree in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Biotechnology Engineering
  • Chartered membership with IChemE (desirable)

Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years of experience in process engineering within the pharmaceutical sector
  • Demonstrable experience working within design consultancies or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Deep understanding of GMP and non-GMP process systems
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and oversee junior team members
  • Skilled in developing engineering documentation and design deliverables
