The Vacancy

Pro currently has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Underwriting Support Assistant to be part of our Insurance Services team. The job holder will assist technical operations and (re)insurance underwriters in delivering the highest levels of data quality and service.


The role formally reports to Pro Global but sits within a leading London based insurer, in their Underwriting Operations function. On a day to day basis the work allocation and functional reporting line will be into the Operations Manager.


Pro operates a flexible hybrid working policy, with this role being based in the London office 3 days a week.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities will be tailored to the team and class of business and will vary depending on whether the role is within Insurance or Reinsurance. They will include (but not limited to):

  • Act as the operational SME for the lines of business supported – leading and being accountable for the USA team
  • Monitor various workflows, dashboards and reporting tools, to remain familiar with the current status of tasks
  • Be the first escalation point for the USAs and represent them in meetings with the Underwriters and other Stakeholders throughout the business
  • Mentor and offer training to the USA team
  • Manage USA workload – ensuring SLAs are met. Tasks including: risk submission entry, endorsement processing, query resolution, EPI attestations
  • Ensure data quality – Identify and rectify errors in a timely manner, paying attention to Underwriting controls and processes as dictated by the DPMs
  • Financial Close - ensure tasks have been correctly prioritised and performed in time for key dates
  • Coordinate weekly/monthly reporting stats on outstanding/completed tasks – making sure the Ops Manager is fully aware of the team’s performance
  • Investigate and respond to Financial Ops queries
  • Provide additional administrative support including ad hoc activities and projects, as agreed with Technical Ops
  • Provide direct line management for the USA team, with responsibilities to include: appraisals, 1:1’s, objective setting, timesheet acknowledgement.


Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors’ degree level preferred, although not required
  • Minimum of 2.5 years of relevant (re)insurance industry experience, specifically within the Underwriting Community
  • Previous Team Leader/Supervisory experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to use discretion in working to resolve process issues that ensure the success of our established global outsourcing models
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset
  • Ability to work flexibly in order to complete duties of the role, particularly during peak underwriting periods
  • Proven ability to prioritise and organise effectively
  • Proven ability to work with speed and accuracy, particularly under pressure
  • Experience supporting work allocation and working to SLAs/tight deadlines
  • Proven experience of building and maintaining good working relationships
