Description
As part of their mission to promote increased access and social mobility within the legal profession, Addleshaw Goddard is again offering several placements on its placement scheme to students from BPP Law School. The Legal Access Scheme has been successfully running for over 16 years. In that time Addleshaw Goddard has offered many placements to BPP candidates who meet the scheme criteria.

The main aims of the Addleshaw Goddard and BPP Law School Legal Access Scheme are:

  • To encourage and promote social mobility within the legal profession particularly in the practice area of commercial and corporate law.
  • To aid access to the legal profession for students from a less privileged or conventional background.
  • To assist students with no or limited contacts in the legal profession, to gain an understanding of careers within leading commercial law firms.
  • To provide students with a true insight into life in practice in a commercial law firm.

Selection criteria

Core Criteria

For a candidate to be eligible for the scheme they must be a current student/have been a student of BPP Law School within the last 12 months studying one of the following:

  • LLB (second and final year of standard programme or all years on accelerated programme)
  • PGDL
  • LPC
  • SQE

Secondary Criteria

In addition to the above core criteria candidates must also meet at least TWO of the following:

  • Attended a state school for the majority of their secondary schooling
  • Were part of the first generation of their immediate family to attend university
  • During their time at university were in receipt of a private or governmentally funded scholarship, grant, award or bursary designed to help students who come from low-income families.

And ONE of the below:

  • the occupation of your main household earner (i.e. parent or guardian) when you were about aged 14 was one of the following:
  • technical and craft occupations (such as: motor mechanic, plumber, printer, electrician, gardener, train driver);

(ii) routine, semi-routine manual and service occupations (such as: postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, sales assistant, HGV driver, cleaner, porter, packer, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff);

(iii) long-term unemployed (claimed Jobseeker's Allowance or earlier unemployment benefit for more than a year); OR

  • have received free school meals aged 11-16 due to financial hardship; OR
  • have spent time in local authority care; OR
  • have been a refugee/asylum seeker; OR
  • been in paid employment during your A-levels for 20+ hours per week (not including work during holidays); OR
  • been in paid employment during their undergraduate degree for 10+ hours per week (not including work during holidays)

International Applicants and Sponsorship

We welcome applications from candidates from all locations and do not make recruitment decisions based on an applicant's current location. However, please note that the terms of this BPP Legal Access Scheme/Placement Scheme/Training contract role do not meet the Home Office requirements for a Skilled Worker visa. Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to sponsor visas for these roles at the point of hire. Please do look into other right to work options such as the Graduate visa. Additional Information

Addleshaw Goddard provide a weekly salary of £450 in London and £400 in Leeds, and Manchester for those completing the Easter and Summer Placement schemes. If there are additional considerations that may impact your ability to attend a Placement scheme, please contact earlycareers@addleshawgoddard.com to discuss further. Addleshaw Goddard are accepting applications from students who are looking to secure work experience in 2025.

Those who secure a place on the BPP Legal Access Scheme will not automatically be considered for a training contract. Applicants who perform exceptionally well on the scheme may be invited to an assessment centre at Addleshaw Goddard in order to be considered for a training contract.

Please note that Addleshaw Goddard accept one application per intake year. You can therefore only apply to either the BPP Legal Access Scheme or the Addleshaw Goddard Placement Scheme. You can also only apply for one location so please ensure you have decided where you would like to be based before applying.
