Job Purpose

We have an exciting entry level position for a Legal Support Officer to join our welcoming, empowering and high performing Legal team on a permanent basis to support with the drafting of legal documentation, updating case management systems and data protection legal work.

This role will involve basic legal tasks to support the provision of and representation of United Utilities Water Limited in relation to Legal matters across the Department as required, including Property matters, Regulatory and Environmental Matters, as well as Claims and Debt Recovery matters and Commercial contracts, corporate and other legal matters. Data Protection matters will be a particular area of focus for this role.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Support and assist the lawyers and senior management across the Department to provide cost-effective, timely, accurate and comprehensive legal advice for contentious and non-contentious matters as appropriate.
• Drafting basic agreements, such as Non-Disclosure Agreements, Data Sharing Agreements, very simple contracts, and industry standard documents such as adoption, self-lay, connection, build over agreements – mostly precedent based work but with professional knowledge behind to support changes of approach (on every document) and with supervision as required.
• Proof reading, collating schedules and providing other supervised input to contracts, leases and other legal and transactional documents
• Support on the administration of data protection, fraud and environmental information matters and other legal matters

Technical Skills & Experience

• Relevant experience of working in a Legal and/or Company Secretariat function, or a demonstrable interest in working in that environment, specifically data protection legal experience
• Academic qualifications or a vocational background indicating an aptitude for legal practice and potential to progress in that environment
• Able to understand, analyse, interpret, summarise and present information verbally or in writing in an easily understood way
• Possess good organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills and have good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work calmly and effectively in a highly demanding role and high volume role
