What You’ll Be Doing
As a key member of our multi-disciplinary professional team, you will lead the engineering assessment of technical risks, utilising your expert knowledge of NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and relevant codes and standards. Your focus will be on complex, high-risk, and high-value new build and conversion projects in London, with potential involvement in other major urban areas as needed.
In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will assist in managing the Major Projects team, providing critical management information, and supporting the broader team objectives. You will also play a vital role in promoting NHBC’s business goals, managing customer relationships, and contributing to the acquisition and retention of major customers and large, complex projects.
Lead the engineering assessment of NHBCs technical risks
- Lead the engineering assessment of structural, geotechnical and land quality aspects of complex, high risk and high value new build and conversion projects. Manage the input of other NHBC engineering specialists. Engage, influence and negotiate with developers and their design teams at the proposal stage to provide expert knowledge, and professional and technical advice on NHBC Standards, Building Regulations and codes and standards in order to guide them towards compliant solutions that present an acceptable technical risk to NHBC.
Deliver an efficient and effective service
- Manage own workload and tasks referred to other specialists in accordance with SOPs and to achieve SLAs.
Assist in the management of the Major Project teams
- Deputise for the Senior Major Projects Manager as and when required.
- Assist with the preparation of management reports and staff development including training, coaching and mentoring as required.
Promote NHBC’s business objectives and manage customer relationships
- Provide guidance to builders, their consultants and NHBC on Building Regulation, Engineering & NHBC Standards and claims as appropriate.
- Proactively resolve customer complaints & manage conflict and disagreement by effective and appropriate escalation.
The ideal candidate will have
- Extensive relevant design experience in the buildings sector.
- Proven ability to make pragmatic and value decisions on compliance with Building Regulations and NHBC standards.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal and presentational skills.
- IT literate with the ability to use a range of software programs.
- Able to work with minimum of supervision in line with established policies and procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of ground conditions and ground investigation techniques with regard to building structures.
- Thorough knowledge of environmental issues and relevant standards and legislation.
- Advanced knowledge of NHBC standards.
- Advanced knowledge of NHBC SOPS relevant to Engineering.
- A dedicated Team player, with a positive attitude and wanting to make a difference
Education And Qualifications
- Chartered membership of an appropriate professional institution e.g. ICE, BEng (Building), IStructE and others considered.
- Degree related to Building, Construction or Engineering would be of an advantage or equivalent qualification.
- Extensive Engineering experience across a mixture of building types.
- Full driving licence.
