Location – Malvern UK

About the role:

Reporting to the Global Director of Supply Chain Operations, you’ll take the helm of our Malvern Supply Chain operations, directly contributing to our mission of excellence. You will be joining Malvern Panalytical at a crucial time due to 2 global acquisitions and the transition of using SAP 4 Hana. Due to this transformation, this role requires strategic oversight with hands-on leadership. Managing teams through change and growth whilst driving additional revenue.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership:

  • Design and implement Malvern operations strategy in alignment with corporate goals, contributing to broader strategic planning
  • Develop the annual operations plan and budget for Malvern, shaping production goals and securing required approvals
  • Translate monthly SIOP (Sales Inventory Operations Planning) forecasts into actionable production and efficiency targets
  • Communicate an inspiring vision that aligns initiatives, simplify complexities by setting clear priorities, and plan and act with a focus on the business's long-term success
  • Build and develop close cross functional collaboration with the Global Operations Supply Chain team, including Global process owners and specific Subject Matter Experts
  • Lead and drive change transformational projects to achieve efficiencies and competitive advantage

Operations Management:

  • Lead operational activities, continuously monitor progress, and adjust as needed to meet Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity (SQDIP) targets in a dynamic high-tech environment.
  • Ensure quality standards in all processes and products, consistently and rigorously.
  • Promote the Spectris Business System and drive LEAN improvements, applying tools like 8D, 6S, and “Go to GEMBA” for maximum efficiency and impact.
  • Understand your customers' needs, place them at the heart of everything you do, and recognize and encourage customer-centric behavior.
  • Budgetary control of Malvern operations ensuring operational capacity and utilization are optimized.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build, manage, and develop a skilled team of 90 members, ensuring critical skills are present and cultivated within the Malvern operations
  • Coach, lead and develop first line supervisors who have managerial responsibility for the front line
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster alignment and operational efficiency
  • Execute strategies that deliver £10–£50M of added value and oversee complex, interrelated processes with the Malvern team and cross-functional partners, including Sales, Procurement, and R&D
  • Set high standards by delegating effectively and holding people accountable, fostering a culture where new ideas can thrive through risk-taking and innovation
  • Fostering collaboration, being present on site, and ensuring each team member feels valued and included
  • Champion talent by leading through coaching rather than directing, providing regular feedback to foster a growth mindset, and actively identifying diverse talent both within and outside the organization

Site Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Malvern’s site leadership team and oversee Malvern’s site operations, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, Facility, and Compliance standards
  • Manage site budgets for key initiatives, including capital and layout projects, while advancing Net Zero and sustainability goal
  • Lead local communications and serve as the main point of contact for facilities, security, catering, and project coordination
  • Maintain ISO 9001 certification and quality management systems, supporting audit processes and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with external auditing bodies and local government, ensuring smooth operations and clear communication with HR and facilities departments
  • Liaise with site-based leadership to align team efforts with broader organizational objectives
  • Challenge the status quo and lead transformational change

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in supply chain management, Operations Management, or equivalent
  • Proven track record of leading large operational teams in supply chain operations, with recent experience on site management of significant change management programmes
  • Extensive experience of working within a global production planning, procurement, and inventory structure
  • Knowledge and first hand expertise of utilizing manufacturing systems
  • Strong communicator who is readily able to lead and influence stakeholders in the UK and across wider functions
  • Experience of overseeing supply chain transformational change management projects to support delivery of strategic goals and changing market demands
  • Demonstrated success in continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean Six Sigma
  • Proven ability to lead change and improve systems using Lean Transformation principles
  • Proven reliability, independence, and precision, with a strong commitment to quality and continuous improvement
  • A track record of driving team engagement
  • Demonstrable leadership experience of building high performance teams
  • You will have a positive can-do approach and will actively demonstrate drive and ambition

  • Experience with international manufacturing and supply chain operations
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, ideally SAP H4 Hana
