The Vacancy

We have a current requirement for a lead mechanical designer to join our design function on a permanent basis, the role will be based in Glasgow on a hybrid working pattern. The role of the Mechanical Designer is to support in the production of whole life cycle design packages within the water and wastewater sector. This will involve contributing to a multi-discipline design team through the production of specifications, schedules, drawings and calculations. A typical team structure will have you carrying out tasks for a Principal or Lead Designer of the same discipline. This will allow you to develop your knowledge of the industry and project requirements on a job-by-job basis under the mentorship of more experienced designers.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Undertake site visits to obtain information which will help with the develop of design packages or delivery of projects
  • Undertake the production of scope reports outlining the client needs and project requirements
  • Participate in internal and client project progress and review meetings
  • Undertake the development of project design deliverables such as calculations, schedules, datasheets, specifications, work packages, drawings and schematics
  • Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of client and industry specifications
  • Conduct yourself in a safe and professional manor ensuring compliance with all WGM policies and procedures
  • Assist with the development of graduate and assistant designers knowledge and skillsets
  • Correctly use the WGM timesheet system to capture and maintain accurate records of time spent on each project.


To be considered for this position you will have at least 3-5 years previous design experience ideally within an mechanical engineering or construction environment as a mechanical Designer, the ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical design and a good understanding of the water or wastewater sector would be beneficial for the role. Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders is also essential for the role.
