Description

✔️ This role is ideally aimed at junior engineers. Perhaps you have just completed your degree or graduate scheme and looking for your next mechanical engineering role, or you might have your level 4 HNC with some practical experience.


✔️ We are open to your industry background, however, you must have a mechanical leaning to your work and/or studies.


✔️ This role offers the chance to work at the Low Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria 3-days per week and you will also work on GDF related projects.

Responsibilities

  • Produce Mechanical design deliverables (e.g specification, calculations, technical reports, drawings, designers risk assessments, outline removal and installation method statements, design information packs, health and safety files).
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure contractors understand requirements, specifications and expectations to ensure the contractor design is fit for purpose.
  • Check simple Mechanical design deliverables to ensure that they are of a suitable quality supporting successful project and task delivery.
  • Produce and check “as-built” mechanical design deliverables to ensure that they reflect the configuration baseline and allow projects and tasks to be successfully closed out.
  • Manage design changes to ensure a configuration baseline is maintained throughout a design and construction project.
  • Carry out plant walkdowns and revise documentation supporting the management of the Mechanical configuration baseline.
  • Support Mechanical Engineering assurance activities to help demonstrate compliance with regulations, standards and procedures.
  • Support the Senior Mechanical Engineer with design reviews as necessary.
  • Support the relevant project team during construction, installation, commissioning and pre-ops to ensure the delivered solution is fit for purpose, meets the design intent and design information is accurate.
  • Manage own workload, attend project and team meetings and provide regular progress updates supporting the management of the Mechanical Engineering team and successful project and task delivery.
  • Attend engineering study meetings, design reviews, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews, and Hazards in Construction (HAZCON) review supporting LLWR site operations and successful project and task delivery.
  • Develop technical competence and maintain currency with respect to modern standards and methodologies relevant to the mechanical discipline
  • Provide support to the wider mechanical engineering team, including the Lead Mechanical Engineer, in the delivery of NWS scope.


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum Level 4 apprenticeship with associated qualification.
  • Accredited with an appropriate professional institution such as the IMechE to EngTech standard and working towards IEng.
  • Demonstrable design experience.
  • Familiarity with 2D CAD software and willing to learn and use AutoCAD.
  • Minimum 2 years in industry.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and carry out tasks independently.
  • Willingness to learn and develop professionally.

Desirable requirements:

  • Honours degree (min 2:2) in relevant subject.
  • Working towards Chartership accreditation
  • Ability to obtain SC clearance.
  • Direct Nuclear experience, either in the supply chain or working in a client organisation.
  • Experience with Mechanical engineering design in any of the following fields: Piping, HVAC, Machinery, Lifting Equipment, Pressure Systems.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software and willing to learn and use Autodesk inventor.
  • Experience working within a design and engineering contract, either for a client, primary contractor or subcontractor.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team in a project or programme environment
  • Appreciation of the importance of asset management.
