We are looking for a motivated and engaging student to join
SPT Labtech on a 12-month mechanical engineering placement to help improve our consumables manufacturing processes. You will work with our consumables development and manufacturing teams to understand weaknesses in our existing approach. You will identify opportunities to develop jigs/fixtures and simple automation to make our consumables easier to manufacture with increased efficiency.
You'll possess compelling communication skills working alongside multiple departments across the business and a strong attention to detail. During your placement, you will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced production and development team. This will be a paid internship on a full-time basis working on site in Melbourn.

Your key responsibilities will include:
- Learning and Analysing consumables production processes
- Identifying opportunities for workflow yield and efficiency improvements
- Generating and presenting concepts to address these opportunities with clear cost/benefit analysis
- Taking selected concepts through to proof of principle rigs.
- Testing your solutions to demonstrate the benefits
- Training others how to utilise your solutions
Skills & Attributes
About you:
- Studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Very strong attention to detail and ability to work methodically
- Good analytical skills, you will need to fully understand complex manufacturing processes
- Mechanically minded, to understand how your design skills can be used to improve those processes
- Great at generating concepts and then taking them through to proof-of-concept testing
- High level of manual dexterity, to test your concepts you'll need to be able to handle small components - at speed and without damaging them
- The ideal candidate will have some prior experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering/science team
