Role Overview
As
Operations Team Leader, you’ll play a vital role in delivering smooth, professional events. You’ll work hands-on to prepare meeting rooms and support technical needs, supervise the porter team, liaise with clients, and ensure a high standard of service throughout.
You’ll be the go-to person in the absence of the Operations Supervisor and ensure events are set up, run efficiently, and leave a positive impression on all attendees.
Key Responsibilities
Client Liaison
- Act as the client’s main point of contact on event days
- Conduct event briefings and fire safety introductions
- Check on client satisfaction throughout the event
- Coordinate with catering and internal teams for seamless service
- Build positive relationships to encourage repeat business
Technology & Equipment
- Set up AV and hybrid technical equipment
- Troubleshoot issues or liaise with external technicians
- Maintain equipment condition and assist with stocktakes
- Report needs or faults to the Operations Supervisor
Team Supervision
- Supervise porters in room setups and takedowns
- Monitor and report poor performance or safety breaches
- Ensure appropriate uniform and PPE usage
Room Set-Ups
- Prepare rooms in line with client specifications
- Handle furniture and equipment safely
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation
- Keep storage areas tidy and damage-free
- Display marketing, welcome, and H&S materials as required
Administration
- Follow clear handovers and instructions
- Prepare client signage and floor plans
- Assist in daily site inspections for H&S and facility issues
Sales Support
- Update event changes in the Rendezvous booking system
- Record additional chargeable items for client approval
- Take calls and log information for the sales team
- Support show rounds with technical expertise
Health & Safety
- Follow departmental risk assessments and safe working practices
- Monitor manual handling practices
- Report defects and risks promptly
Required Experience & Skills
- Previous experience in event or conference operations
- Confident with audio-visual and sound equipment
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Leadership or supervisory experience
- Professional, calm under pressure, and tactful
- Flexibility to work irregular hours (including evenings and weekends)
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Hours of Work
- Full-time (40 hours)
- Includes evening and weekend shifts depending on event needs
Salary & Benefits
- 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays, pro-rata)
