Let Us Tell You a Bit About The Opportunity
Our Underwriting teams review and manage mortgage applications from initial decision stage through to completion and release of funds. The primary role of the Underwriter is working with company lending policies to determine the level of risk for each applicant within parameters of business policies and processes, while presenting all mitigants to support the decision to lend.
Our Underwriting teams are based across our Manchester and Wilmslow sites so you can choose to work from either location.

What will your day look like?
- Applying aptitude to structuring detailed lending rationale for each case, demonstrating exceptional ability to interpret information, apply necessary affordability tests and construct risk mitigants to support lending.
- To employ specialist data, from credit reference agencies, fraud prevention agencies and necessary mortgage and market databases to build and package the mortgage application
- Detailed knowledge of Specialist buy-to-let lending in order to interpret and asses all key factors, demonstrating comprehension for the level of risk and supporting collateral.
- Ability to underwrite manually according to both residential and buy-to-let lending policies. Underwrite to external scheme rules or third party requirements, such as government schemes (HTB) or high LTV product policies.
- Interpretation of mortgage market and economic factors to ensure external risk factors are understood relative to each case underwritten
- Ability to assess and underwrite applications ranging from £25k to £1m aggregated exposures, across a range of mortgage types, including owner occupied and standard buy-to-let.
What do we expect from you?
- Existing or recent mortgage underwriter with experience of holding a lending mandate
- Knowledge of the mortgage market – including owner occupied, private rental sectors.
- Experience of working with Intermediaries and direct customers
- Experience of working to package and asses mortgage applications
- To ideally have held a lending mandate covering either owner occupied or buy to let/company lending
- Having a proactive approach, with a keen desire to provide excellent customer service, and delivery for our customers
