Let Us Tell You a Bit About The Opportunity
Operational Risk Manager – Framework and GRC will lead the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of Aldermore’s operational risk frameworks, policies and standards including the communication and education across the Group.
The candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end documents’ lifecycle from definition to dispensations, waivers and breaches management, tracking and reporting. They will build strong relationships with stakeholders across risk and the wider business and adopt a collaborative approach to the successful delivery of own and team priorities.
The role holder will also be responsible for the development and dissemination of relevant management information in relation to this area and the education and enablement of compliance with the document requirements.
One of the key enablers for the Operational Risk Framework is the development and continuous enhancement to the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) system, currently Riskonnect. The role holder will require or need to quickly develop advanced skills in Riskonnect to be able to maintain the system including the building of reports/dashboards, and adding and amending fields and workflows.

What will your day look like?
Reporting to the Head of Operational Risk & Resilience, you will be responsible for:
- Owning the updates to the Operational Risk governance documents, including related templates/presentations to committees.
- Supporting the Head of Operational Risk with the definition, documentation, maintenance and tracking of the Operational Risk strategy, keeping up to speed on tools and techniques used to manage operational risk and proposing new approaches and methodologies where appropriate.
- Ensuring the operational risk-owned frameworks, policies and standards effectively support the risk profile and Group strategy.
- Monitor compliance with the requirements of the risk frameworks/policies and their effectiveness across the Group.
- Collaborating across teams to ensure the risk, frameworks and policies are current, effectively communicated and applied.
- Ensuring appropriate level of control is applied to the development, maintenance and approval of documents, including appropriate record keeping.
- Ensuring adequate monitoring and MI is in place in relation to compliance, with effective reporting mechanisms.
GRC - Lead for the development of the Groups GRC system Including:
- Developing new reports and dashboards and putting them into production
- Adding, removing and amending fields and workflows in the sandbox, testing and deploying to production
- Developing new capabilities, testing and deploying to production
- Supporting user profiles and approving new users
Governance
- Ensuring that appropriate papers are submitted to the Executive committees and managing the inputs to those committees, acting as the key liaison.
- Ensuring that all documents are maintained, updated and administered in accordance with the governance cycle.
First Rand Engagement
- Manage the relationship with First Rand in relation to Frameworks and Governance, co-ordinating alignment activities, liaison and meeting attendance as required.
This is not an exhaustive list as activities will evolve and the individual will need to support the evolving and topical ORM activities as required by the Head of Operational Risk.
What do we expect from you?
Technical knowledge
- Strong experience in financial services, with proven applied knowledge in the development of operational risk management frameworks, policies and training (5 years+).
- Knowledge of the use, maintenance and development of GRC systems, preferably Riskonnect 2.0
- Excellent organisational skills with project management capability. Able to deliver in a pragmatic and focused manner.
- Strategic thinking capability and experience.

- Able to build and develop ongoing relationships at a range of levels across the business. Including the ability to lead small teams on specific tasks.
Critical Thinking
- Attention to detail, effective planning and organisational skills and demonstrable ability to work under own initiative is essential.
- Have a naturally curious and inquisitive approach to work, proactively questioning the status quo where appropriate.
Effective Communication
- Effective communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence business stakeholders including senior stakeholders.
- Experience in creating and delivering impactful presentation and education programme in risk management and frameworks/policies to colleagues at all levels in the organisation.
