About Us
This is an important role which requires an individual with a sympathetic and approachable disposition as duties include representing the council at burials and assisting with visitor enquiries. You will also work closely with funeral directors and have responsibility for checking the certificate of burial is correctly completed prior to internments taking place.
Additional responsibilities include marking out of correct burial plots and assisting with the preparation of graves.To supervise and actively lead a team of staff to ensure that an effective, responsive and high quality grave-digging and grounds maintenance service is delivered, produce programmes of work to facilitate quality ground maintenance regimes, allocate work and supervise the grave-digging and ground maintenance operations on a day to day basis, supervise the testing of the safety of memorials within the cemeteries and the recording of the information, manage the health and safety aspects of all operations within the cemetery and/or crematorium for staff, stone-masons, funeral directors, the bereaved and any other users, ensure that all plant and equipment is regularly serviced and maintained to defined standards, maintain stock records and inventories of all grave-digging and grounds maintenance related plant, fuel, tools, equipment, machines and other goods, authorise staff leave ensuring the contingencies of the service are met. Maintain records of leave, sickness, overtime etc. Record any incidents of lateness or absence and report to the Operations Manager. Check and verify staff time sheets and Issue and renew staff uniforms and personal protective equipment.
You will also ensure that the cemetery is kept in a tidy and well-maintained condition and that visitors remain respectful of the site rules.
Ideally, we seek an individual who has worked in a cemetery performing a similar role or has experience of carrying out grounds maintenance work.

Salary
£42,861 - £44,430 per annum (PO1)
N.B: All appointments will be offered at the minimum spinal column point (SCP29) for the grade of the role. The only exception to this will be when matching current salary (up to the maximum of the scale), which is subject to evidential proof.
