Job Description
TTP is an independent technology company where scientists, engineers and designers collaborate to invent, design and develop new products and technologies that make a difference to people’s lives.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Opto-mechanical engineer to join the Eyecare team within our Health Tech business unit. In this role, you will apply your expertise to cutting-edge innovation and play a key role in shaping transformative medical technologies that will impact patients across the globe.
You’ll be at the heart of breakthrough projects — chiefly designing optical systems, and also helping solve complex, multidisciplinary challenges in collaboration with physicists, electronic and mechanical engineers, software developers, and human factors specialists. You’ll work with some of the most interesting and impactful organisations in the world, from ambitious start-ups to global medtech companies.
While your core focus will be optical and opto-mechanical system design, your work won’t stop there. You’ll bring broader technical or leadership skills to projects, ensuring your role stays diverse and stimulating. Whether it’s contributing to systems architecture, leading technical workstreams, or working closely with clients and suppliers, you'll be hands-on throughout the development lifecycle: from concept and simulation through to prototyping, testing, and design for manufacture.
Your home will be the Eyecare team, where you’ll help drive innovations that directly improve vision and ocular health. But your career at TTP won’t be limited to a single domain. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to projects across our wider business, both within the world of Health Tech and beyond it, expanding your skillset and collaborating with colleagues from diverse technical backgrounds.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on new technologies and thrives in an environment where initiative, curiosity and ownership are encouraged. At TTP, you'll have the freedom to explore ideas, the support to take on new challenges, and the opportunity to work on a broad variety of exciting projects.
What You’ll Bring
You may call yourself an optical physicist, engineer, designer or opto-mechanical engineer. What matters are your skills in making optical systems real. Your application will stand out if you have:
- Proven experience in opto-mechanical or optical system design, including simulation, prototyping, and testing
- Hands-on involvement in product development through to manufacture, ideally in regulated sectors
- Proficiency in optical design tools (e.g. Zemax, CODE-V, OSLO, FRED), with the ability to take initial designs through tolerancing and thermal analyses
- The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and suppliers
- A 1st or 2:1 degree in a physical science or engineering discipline
- A PhD or relevant industry experience is welcomed
