Packaging Buyer

The successful candidate can be based at either our Boddam or Uddingston site.

The Role

The Buyer – Packaging is responsible for the purchasing and management of the packaging required for the products produced by the Company. The post holder must have a sound knowledge of the Company’s products and they will be required to work closely with the production, technical, stores and commercial teams to ensure that there are adequate supplies for the production plan and that they meet the required standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchasing packaging in a manner which ensures there is an adequate amount to meet the demands of production whilst also ensuring there is not excessive excess material which would cause storage issues.
• Being aware of the lead times on packaging material and placing orders in enough time to ensure their delivery for production.
• Keeping up to date and having a solid understanding of the market place and availability of packaging.
• Building strong relationships with current suppliers.
• Aiding with the negotiation of prices with current suppliers to ensure packaging is being supplied at the best price.
• Ensuring when placing orders the correct price is on the ERP system. If there are variances this must be raised and amended following the correct process.
• Liaising with the commercial, production and technical teams to ensure packaging meets the required standards.
• Playing a key role and providing packaging advise for new products or product changes.
• Control stock levels and play a key role in monthly and year end stock takes.
• Keeping accurate records, challenging any invoice discrepancies, etc.
• Deputise for the Head of Buying if/when required.
• Completing any other duties as required in this role.

Experience:

• Previous buying experience.
• Previous experience of working within the food industry is desirable but not essential.
