Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our nursing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients for medical testing and other clinical purposes. This role requires excellent attention to detail, empathy, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

You are required to work on a rotating shift pattern within the hours of Monday to Saturday 8am to 8:30pm, 40 hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

  • Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples for diagnostic tests or medical procedures.
  • Patient Care: Provide a reassuring and empathetic approach to patients, ensuring their comfort and explaining procedures clearly before and during the process.
  • Specimen Handling: Accurately label and process blood samples, ensuring they are delivered to the correct laboratory department in a timely manner.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Follow strict infection control, health, and safety protocols to prevent contamination or cross-contamination and to ensure the safety of both patients and staff.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including sample collection times, patient details, and any unusual events during the procedure.
  • Communication: Have excellent communication skills and liaise with the rest of the clinic staff, including doctors, nurses, HCAs,, FOH and hospital departments, if required, to ensure accurate and efficient processing of blood samples and timely patient care.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for blood collection by offering advice on hydration and other relevant preparations, as needed.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification or relevant training (NVQ Level 2/3 in Phlebotomy or equivalent).
  • Previous experience as a phlebotomist (1-2 years preferred but not essential).
  • Good understanding of infection control and health & safety regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to put patients at ease.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be prepared to work across all our clinic sites; Euston, Canary Wharf, Victoria, Lillie Road and Wimbledon, to meet business demand.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience working in primary care.
  • To have an understanding of QOF.
  • Previous experience of using SystmOne
