Haematology are recruiting to cover a maternity leave post for a Physicians Associate to work on our inpatient wards, Haematology Day ward, and with colleagues in our Outpatient clinics, based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Physician Associates to deliver support to the medical and nursing teams caring for Haematology patients. The successful candidate will be trained in acute ward based Haematology as well as to carry out a number of procedures, key to the delivery of Haematology care.

To manage a caseload of patients as determined by the consultant, exercising a high level of professional judgement and expertise when delivering care. This could include taking medical histories, undertaking physical examinations, discharge planning, making complex diagnoses and explaining conditions during consultations.

To assess and examine patients, initiate, and interpret investigations and recommend treatment.

To exercise a high degree of personal autonomy in assessing, managing, planning and co-ordinating care for patients in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

To develop extensive specialist knowledge and experience within the speciality, acting as a resource to the wider clinical team.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of twelve months due to maternity leave of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and statutory maternity provisions.

The Directorate of Haematology is within the Sheffield Teaching Hospital's Haematology and Specialised Cancer Care Group . The Clinical Haematology department caters for patients with diseases of the blood, both malignant and non-malignant, and provides comprehensive diagnostic services and continuing management to patients.
