Tendring District Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Planning Policy Officer to join our dedicated and professional Policy Team, or a qualified Planning Officer with the desire to move into a Planning Policy role.

Are you passionate about shaping the future of local communities, and looking for a fresh challenge developing planning policies and delivering a Local Plan in a diverse and unique district?

Our small, efficient team that works closely with colleagues in the Planning department is looking for a Planning Policy Officer to join us as we progress through our Local Plan Review, working with colleagues across the wider Council on strategic projects and with other public bodies, neighbouring authorities and statutory stakeholders.

Our collaborative approach ensures that the Local Plan and other planning policies are effective in addressing the District’s planning needs and challenges.

Key Responsibilities Of The Role

  • Review and Update Local Plan: The Council is in the process of reviewing and updating the Tendring District Local Plan. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the Local Plan meets current and future needs, conforms with national policy, and is delivered on schedule.
  • Policy Development: Working with the Policy team to develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of the policies that shape our District..
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with developers, residents, and other key stakeholders; working collaboratively with a variety of interested parties to build consensus and achieve our goals.
  • Data Analysis: Analysing and interpreting data in respect of housing, economic, health, and environmental factors to provide insights that shape our strategies and policy decisions.
  • Report Preparation: Preparation of clear, informative and engaging reports that deliver complex information including presentations for committee meetings and public consultations.

Tendring District is a coastal peninsular which has exciting opportunities ahead. Our holistic and comprehensive planning policies, and the Council’s declaration of a climate emergency has meant that policies focusing on sustainability and resilience are a key focus of the Local Plan.

Our ideal candidate will have proven organisational, and technical skills along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A degree in Town Planning or a related field is required, and we are looking for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

In return, we offer flexible working arrangements to support a positive work-life balance, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous leave entitlement, and support for ongoing professional development and training. Additional benefits include free parking, discounted corporate gym membership, and various salary sacrifice initiatives.
