We are expanding our Skin Cancer Services at Frimley Health NHS Trust and invite applications from nurses with an interest in plastic surgery and skin cancer to join our dedicated team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of a comprehensive, nurse-led service that is holistic, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the individual needs of skin cancer patients through personalised care and support planning.
The post-holder will work towards becoming a clinical expert in skin cancer, demonstrating excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously within a well-established, integrated multidisciplinary team. Acting as a Keyworker for a defined caseload, you will serve as a vital link between patients and healthcare professionals across primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings.
You will advocate for patients and families, providing ongoing support and ensuring the highest standards of clinical care. The role demands competence in complex post-surgical wound assessment, management, and dressing application, alongside skills in drain management and aftercare following sentinel lymph node biopsy and lymph node dissection/clearance.
This position is ideal for a motivated nurse seeking to develop expertise in skin cancer care within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
- Deliver and maintain an excellent standard of holistic, patient-centred care to individuals with skin cancer.
- Organise and manage a caseload of patients with new and existing skin cancer diagnoses, working closely with the plastic surgery team.
- Develop the Skin Cancer Nursing service by becoming a clinical expert in skin cancer and complex wound management, providing specialist advice, guidance, and supervision to clinical staff, patients, and carers.
- Lead and manage nurse-led plastic surgery clinics to streamline service delivery, enhance patient experience, and establish efficient clinical pathways.
- Support the Plastic Surgery team by responding to urgent patient queries and delegating tasks appropriately.
- Provide personalised care and support planning for skin cancer patients, including remote monitoring and promoting self-managed care.
- Drive service development through continuous quality improvement activities such as patient surveys, audits, and feedback, including the National Cancer Patient Experience Survey.
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance the skin cancer service and improve overall patient experience.
