Overview

Would you like to be a Platform Engineer at one of the largest outdoor gear companies with an international presence since 1997? We have an amazing opportunity for you to join an ever-growing Infrastructure/Platform team in a dynamic environment.

At Mountain Warehouse, our Platform team look after the behind-the-scenes infrastructure, software, and tools of our Azure cloud platform.

On the Platform team you will help to deploy, manage, fix and reinvent the tools, services and components that the platform relies on to automate our services and keep it operational. At Mountain Warehouse we have a large Development department who will act as your customer and fellow colleagues, and through close collaboration, support, and exchange of ideas, we share a common goal to serve our external customers and grow through learning and innovation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Working on projects that support our Infrastructure, DevOps and Cybersecurity plans.
  • Collaboratively identifying those projects and creating long-term plans.
  • Carrying out day-to-day management and support of our infrastructure to a high standard.
  • Work closely with the development teams and ensure they can continue to deploy new features to production rapidly.

Some of the technologies desirable for this Role include:

  • Cloud platform experience – Azure preferably, but AWS or GCP can be useful too
  • Container technologies – Kubernetes, Docker
  • CI/CD – Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines
  • IAC – Terraform, Terraform CDK
  • Configuration Management – Ansible, Salt, Puppet
  • Observability – Datadog, Sentry
  • Some knowledge or exposure to any of the following languages can be an advantage - Bash, PowerShell, Python, Go, Node.js, C# etc.

Other Technologies You’ll Be Exposed To

Knowledge of all of these is not required but the more you have experience of (or experience of a similar product), the better.

  • Database technologies - MS SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, MySQL
  • RabbitMQ
  • Cloudflare - WAF, Workers, Zero Trust
  • Networking – Express Route, VPN, Virtual Network
  • Microsoft Entra (Azure AD)
  • Nutanix - HCI, Networking, Storage
  • Secret and configuration management - Azure Key Vault, Azure Application Configuration
  • Atlassian products – Jira, Confluence

Who are we looking for?

  • We envisage this to be a role where you can grow into the business & expand your skillset and knowledge.
  • A desire to create simple / low-maintenance and cost-effective solutions.
  • Some experience of infrastructure-as-code and a drive to bring that to all areas of the team.
  • Willingness and capability to support and troubleshoot day to day issues.
  • Able to use initiative and be self-sufficient in taking ownership of a given area.
  • Strong Analytical/Problem Solving skills, ability to approach each task in a systematic manner.
  • Adaptability, flexibility in working within a team, always happy to get-stuck-in.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, business and IT, technical and non-technical.
  • Excellent communication skills from verbal to written.
