The development of our “Families Together” model in Kirklees offers a unique opportunity to help shape and influence services working together with our partners to deliver meaningful support in localities.

We are looking for a passionate and professional Play Worker , who has a strong knowledge base of the benefits of play and play development to deliver inclusive, safe, free, exciting play activities, with a commitment to working inclusively with children and young people of all ages and ability.

The role will be primarily based within Crow Nest Adventure Playground in Dewsbury. The playground is open to all children and young people throughout the year, with a particular focus on weekends and school holiday periods. We are seeking a reliable individual who can work evenings and weekends five days a week. You will also have the capacity to work with our community partners to develop and deliver the play offer in targeted areas across Kirklees.

As a Play Worker you will have an ability to inspire imaginative self-directed play in a supportive, and fun environment. The role will involve being responsive to a range of play types, behaviours and experiences and allow children control and autonomy over the content and intent of their play; whilst facilitating positive behaviour.

It is expected that you will collaborate with other staff in the planning and running of sessions so that the playground offers a broad range of play and activities, considering the needs and wishes of young people, families, and the wider community. You will work professionally as part of a team, participating in individual and team reflective play work practice; supervision; appraisal and receive on going professional development.

We want outstanding services for families that are evidence-based and deliver improved outcomes for children. Support will be delivered with community and voluntary groups who currently access the playground together with an opportunity to be part of the development of an offer to encourage access from schools throughout Kirklees. This development will include extended classrooms therefore experience of environmental play programmes such as forest schools would be advantageous but is not essential if you have a passion for outdoor learning.
