This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly team delivering preventive conservation activities across the three London branches of the Imperial War Museum: Lambeth Road, Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast.
As a Preservation Technician at IWM, you will delivery preservation activities including integrated pest management, environmental monitoring, and conservation cleaning.
Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing and delivering a programme of conservation cleaning for objects on display and in stores
- Providing support to the museum’s busy Exhibition and Film programme
- Maintaining the Collections Emergency Response Equipment and participating in audits.
- Keeping electronic and paper-based records of work done
- Supervising volunteers and contractors and providing training when necessary
The ideal candidate will have some experience from working in museum collections/housekeeping and/or Preservation/Conservation, alongside a keen interest in 20th-century history. They should be able to demonstrate good manual dexterity and a methodical approach, as well as the capacity to work from ladders at heights of up to 15 metres.
Please note: this role will involve some working at height, for which training will be given.
