We are currently looking for a talented and motivated
Principal Engineer to join our team in
Leeds. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of three days spent in the office a week.
What does the role involve?
Working within our Civil Structures team on bridges and ancillary civil structures projects, you will act as Lead Design Engineer to undertake and check the delivery of design solutions and associated outputs and coordinate with other disciplines. You will provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and the development of others.
You will be involved in projects from conception to completion including; supporting the Project Manager to clarify the project brief, agree deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy; establishing project checking and approval arrangements and managing internal project start-up meetings; undertaking significant elements of the detailed design and the checking of outputs as directed: e.g. calculations, drawings, sketches, reports etc to achieve the optimum solution for the project; assessing, documenting and communicating design changes to the Project Manager; being aware of work requirements and taking personal responsibility in delivering this to agreed time, cost and quality requirements; reviewing projects on completion and recommending/implementing improvements to technical policy, processes and design solutions as appropriate.
To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Possess
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
- 10+ years relevant post qualification structures design experience and a strong successful record of project delivery in structures design including bridges and ancillary civils structures.
- Chartered Membership of the ICE or IStructE
- Significant experience with design to Eurocodes and DMRB.
- Experience mentoring graduate engineers under ICE or IStructE training schemes.
- Extensive experience of delivering projects within tight timescales.
- Proficient with structural design and analysis software such as Autodesk Structural Bridge Design, LUSAS or similar.
- Significant previous experience of providing project governance on projects.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to adapt your style to suit difference audiences.
- Extensive civil structures design experience including working on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience of working on projects from initial tender/bid submissions, project management, leading the production of engineering drawings, obtaining statutory or third party approvals, project administration, etc.
- The ability to gain insight beyond a client’s immediate need to identify opportunities that benefit the client through meaningful and productive relationships.
- Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
- A full UK driving licence.
