Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Engineer to lead our Mechanical Engineering team in Edinburgh as we continue to scale.

You will oversee the design, analysis and development of sophisticated mechanical systems that integrate with HV Electromagnetic devices and other exciting possibilities in the ENODA roadmap.

This role involves technical expertise and leadership, execution design and analysis, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and driving innovation across product designs.

The Principal for Mechanical Engineering will drive continuous improvement in design, ERP and PLM processes while contributing to the company's overall growth and technological advancement

You'll Spend Your Time

  • Responsible for defining the state of the art or stretching the limits of existing engineering in the domain.
  • Developing and executing the mechanical engineering function, with broader organisational goals and technological advancement
  • Leading and mentoring a team of engineers for effective collaboration, fostering innovation, and ensuring milestones are met as per time and budget allocation
  • Managing the execution of complex mechanical design and analysis work, ensuring adherence to quality standards, design codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing the integration of advanced CAD and FEA software tools in design, analysis, and testing to enhance team productivity and design quality
  • Overseeing the development of accurate simulation models for thermal, structural, dynamic, NVH, and other characteristics, in alignment with product goals
  • Leading the review and approval of detailed manufacturing, assembly, and testing plans, ensuring that designs are scalable, cost-effective, and meet stringent quality and regulatory standards
  • Facilitating the preparation of comprehensive technical reports and presentations, enabling clear communication of complex engineering analyses and decisions to executives, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Supporting risk assessments and mitigation strategies for mechanical systems, ensuring performance, safety, and schedule compliance.
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying innovation & process optimisation within the team and across teams
  • Ability to use automation and software tools to every aspect

The Key Experience We're Looking For

  • Proven experience and success in leading and optimising innovative and advanced mechanical engineering and manufacturing practices
  • Experience in designing enclosures, cooling systems, transformers, switchgear, electrolysers or generators with a modular build philosophy
  • Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication, castings, welding, precision machining and assembling
  • Expertise in a relevant area such as thermal management, design for electrical and magnetic effects, structural and vibration analysis, materials science, etc
  • Proficiency in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and FEA/CFD analysis (preferably ANSYS)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, stamping, casting, injection moulding, 3-D printing)
  • Ability to handle complex situations, navigating diverse teams, and achieving measurable results
  • A track record of successfully implementing and leading strategic initiatives to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance supply chain visibility.
  • Experience managing and building strong relationships with cross-functional teams, including engineering, sales, logistics, and procurement
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Solid understanding and practical application of design engineering principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a systematic and logical approach
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL, ASME, ISO)

The Following Would Be Advantageous

  • Ansys/MATLAB/Simulink simulation packages and Windchill PLM
  • Thermal analysis, fatigue analysis and management of large machinery
  • DfX (design for excellence), high throughput manufacturing methods with robotics and IoT integration
  • Cost out experiences across full value chain
