Role description:
Arcadis is looking to hire a
Privacy Counsel as a member of the Arcadis Global Privacy Team, the Privacy Counsel provides senior specialist advice on all aspects of privacy and supports managing the Arcadis Global Privacy Program under the Global Privacy Officer. The Privacy Counsel also serves as the Privacy Officer for the UK & Ireland, and the main point of contact for privacy with the UK & Ireland management team and Legal Director.
The Privacy Counsel reports directly to the Global Privacy Officer for the Arcadis group with a dotted line reporting line into the UK & Ireland Legal Director
The Privacy Counsel has no direct reports but will be expected to build a collaborative network of stakeholders. In particular, this role will be part of the Global Privacy Team and closely collaborate with the UK & Ireland management team, UK & Ireland Legal team, GBA Privacy Officers, country Privacy Officers, and the Enabling Functions
Location: This role can be based anywhere in the UK but preferences would be in Bristol or London Office. It can be a Hybrid position.
Role accountabilities:
Add value through leveraging global expertise and act as business partner
The Privacy Counsel is a key subject matter expert on EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act and other privacy laws and a member of the Global Privacy Team with specific focus on the
Global Privacy Program, and privacy compliance management in the UK & Ireland.
The Privacy Counsel will work closely alongside other members of the Global Privacy Team and the UK & Ireland management and legal teams and closely collaborate with and support the GBA Privacy Officers and country Privacy Officers as well as providing the business and the Enabling Functions, with expert privacy advice and guidance to ensure successful delivery of the Global Privacy Program. This role requires working closely with stakeholders across the Legal, Compliance & Privacy (LCP) function.
Arcadis has identified the following key focus areas and responsibilities for the role:
- Act as a Business Partner to the UK & Ireland country management teams on privacy matters.
- Support business and legal team in data sharing agreements, such as Data Processing Agreements.
- Actively participate in implementing the Global Privacy Program and support global privacy initiatives roll-out across the UK & Ireland.
- Review and approve all Privacy Impact Assessments for the UK & Ireland and some Global Privacy Impact Assessments. Identify processes that require Privacy Impact Assessments.
- Manage Data Subject Access Requests in the UK & Ireland and improve processes around such requests.
- Provide expert support for Privacy Impact Assessments and related controls that are part of the Arcadis Risk Control Framework and act as business partner to the business, Enabling Functions and GBA and country Privacy Officers.
- Manage Records of Processing Activities register and input and integrity of the register.
- Provide expert support on process and procedures, implementation of the Privacy Policies and related processes and enable the Privacy Officers and the business as a whole with advice.
- Provide expert support in privacy incidents and investigations and provide the Privacy Officers with advice on investigations and on a case by case basis to lead them.
- Monitor privacy laws and regulatory trends, developments and best practices and know-how sharing, developing FAQs.
- Identify awareness & training needs based on lessons learned and otherwise, providing expert input on global training program and micro-learnings and design content of global training and micro-learnings.
- Provide expert support on development and implementation of Arcadis Risk Control Framework controlled documents / privacy related policies, procedures, contract templates, notices, and controls.
- Provides expert input on change management and communication programs related to the focus areas of this role.
Accountability, Culture & Compliance
- Role model privacy by design, and privacy controls, privacy policies, governance and processes.
- Act as a visible steward of privacy, privacy business processes and quality management.
- Safeguard and monitor compliance with relevant privacy laws and regulations, increase awareness and provide or signpost additional training where needed.
- Provide front line advisory and establish trusted and influential relationships
Qualifications & Experience:
The candidate must demonstrate high level of integrity. They should have an academic bachelor or master’s degree, a minimum of 3+ years’ privacy experience in a privacy or legal capacity and be qualified to practice law. The ideal candidate should have some international experience and understand the complexity of conflicting local laws, with cultural sensitivities and eye for local needs.
Furthermore, the candidate should have:
- Proven experience in privacy laws and best practices and understanding the priorities and needs of the business and Arcadis’ risk profile;
- Proven experience participating in personal data related investigations;
- Desire to drive operational privacy excellence through the global LCP function, including motivating and engaging with networks and diverse teams;
- High level of communication skills and expertise in consulting, coaching and presenting in a clear and concise manner and with a sense of humor.
- Project management skills in running privacy related projects and implementing privacy software technologies.
