Role Overview

The Production Manager will lead and manage the Production and Test Teams, ensuring that personnel, capacity, and activities are aligned to meet both business and customer demands efficiently. Optimize the use of resources—including manpower, machinery, and materials—while driving continuous improvement initiatives. Focus on enhancing Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People. Champion improvement activities and foster staff development to ensure efficient, effective, and safe operations that consistently meet the daily manufacturing schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the effectiveness of the Production and Test areas, ensuring business and customer demands are consistently met.
  • Collaborate with the HR Manager and Team Leaders to manage Production personnel, including attendance, disciplinary actions, recruitment, appraisals, and training.
  • Coordinate Production and Test processes to achieve key metrics in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People.
  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) at both site and process levels.
  • Foster a culture of problem-solving and continuous improvement to enhance working practices and KPIs.
  • Implement and maintain training matrices/plans to ensure a highly skilled and flexible team.
  • Ensure safe working practices, address unsafe conditions, and report accidents and near misses within 8 hours.
  • Liaise with other departments to resolve workflow issues and develop strategic plans to address root causes.
  • Implement and sustain 5-S principles in all production areas.
  • Safeguard the Health, Safety, and Welfare of all personnel.

Critical Competencies For Success

  • Ideally educated to HNC/NVQ5 or higher in management or engineering.
  • Proven experience managing low-volume, high-mix manufacturing, preferably in a High-Performance Team environment.
  • Skilled in ERP systems, Supply/Demand signal management, and continuous improvement techniques (e.g., CAPA, 8D).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, build trust, and establish credibility.
  • Professional, flexible, and motivated, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on approach with a results-driven mindset.
  • Willingness to challenge conventional thinking when necessary for the business.
  • Adaptable, open to change, and proactive in problem-solving using Lean and/or Six Sigma principles.
  • Demonstrated history of driving problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives with creativity, logic, and innovation.
  • Ability to accurately assess key business metrics and provide actionable recommendations
