The Health and Justice and Armed Forces health teams are responsible for the commissioning of specialised healthcare services for people in prisons, immigration centres, secure children’s facilities and for serving members of the armed forces, veterans, and their families. The programmes collectively seek to improve health outcomes and improve lives of those within our health and justice, migrant health and Sexual Assault and Abuse Services (SAAS) population. The Quality and Lived Experience agenda is interwoven throughout.

The newly formed Migrant health programme team are responsible via Heads of Detained Migrant Health leads, in providing an integrated approach to migrant health following the recent Illegal Migration Act (IMA). The post holder will be responsible for supporting Heads of Migrant Health in developing policies, director briefs and papers and agendas in the migrant health agenda and wider governance and assurance of health and justice, armed forces and SAAS. Responsible for the delivery of Detained and Non-Detained Migrant health services teams the new team is vital to ensure pathways are streamlined and outcomes improved.

The role supports the team to deliver the specification on behalf of the National Director for Health and Justice as well as specific partners and broader organisational requirements in relation to the Migrant Health portfolio. The postholder will appreciate and understand the full extent of the legal and sensitivities of this portfolio.

The post holder will define current processes, facilitate discussions, and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted in the definition of future processes, document those processes as they are agreed and oversee their delivery.

The post holder is responsible for, but not limited to:

• play a key role in supporting the health & justice delivery team with links to supporting the corporate team helping ensure the oversight of programme management and governance is in place and adhered to.
• providing high quality support to key underpinning governance structures within the portfolio and wider to include Spec Comm Health & Justice Delivery Group and Strategy Group
• act as a key contact, and oversight of inter-departmental requests supporting any strategy developments as required
• ensure that best practice is developed and delivered throughout the directorate and shared with regional leads for national programme alignment. Challenge ways of working and persuade, motivate, and influence other senior managers to realign their practice where necessary.
• oversee the tracking of progress against plans and transition milestones, ensuring appropriate processes are in place to flag issues, risks, cross-programme dependencies, and concerns with the relevant stakeholders.
