General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.
Job Description
The
Programme Manager - Subcontracts is a strategic role embedded in the program management office (PMO). The Subcontract Program Manager is accountable for managing the performance of strategic subcontractors to ensure the successful delivery of the subcontracted scope of work. Experience in Program Management (PM) or related Subcontract Program Management for Defense and/or advanced electronics development is required to perform this job.
Typical Activities You Would Undertake
- Assume primary responsibility for all programmatic aspects of the subcontract (e.g. work execution, cost, schedule, performance, risk and scope management)
- Assume responsibility as Cost Account Manager (CAM) for all subcontractor cost accounts
- Participate in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment to identify potential suppliers of goods and/or services required by the Program
- Develop subcontract Statement of Work (SOW), ensuring alignment with the applicable Prime Contract
- Review and comment on appropriate sections of responses relative to Prime and Subcontract PM Requirements (e.g. WBS, Project Management Plan, Schedule and Risk)
- Support fact-finding and negotiation with subcontractors.
- Address all subcontract risk issues with subcontractor, identify and execute appropriate risk mitigation plans, and coordinate with the Program Manager
- Travel to proactively manager subcontract suppliers is expected in this role.

To be successful in this role you would be able to demonstrate:
- Experience managing subcontracts or related contract and/or programmatic work within the defense industry.
- Experience in the Program Management including management of work, cost, schedule and performance elements of a program.
- Experience in negotiating contracts and working with both technical and non-technical resources to establish contracts.
- Understanding of financial management and performance indicators
You Would Also Preferably
- Be CIPS, APM or equivalent qualified
- Have experience in high technology, high regulatory environment.
Additional Information
This role has a salary of between £ 50,560 and £64,000 plus our flexible benefits package.
We are open to this role being spent with time working from home and in the office (hybrid - typically 3 days working in office) on a weekly basis or fully in our offices.
