The Role

Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd is seeking a talented Project Coordinator to join our project management team. This key role supports the T&D strategy by overseeing the access ground investigation works for the Carnaig to Fanellan 400kV OHL scheme. As part of our dynamic team delivering power for the future, you will be responsible for directing, organizing, and controlling activities crucial to the project's success under the guidance of senior management. This site-based role primarily in Northern Scotland offers the opportunity for growth and requires flexibility in work locations, with travel across Scotland and the UK. You will lead the ground investigations which will be a specialist contractor/s, organise and attend meetings with Design, Procurement, and the client at offices and potentially work on other schemes across the UK. The role will require the candidate to be onsite and to attend meetings in Perth, Inverness, and Glasgow with the client/customer. You will be away from home for periods of time and you will also be expected to work from home and your nearest Wood office to suit business needs.

Responsibilities

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small project team consisting of technical/professional staff
  • Define/design activities, starting from existing solutions
  • Provide the interface and maintain a confident relationship with other contributors to the project
  • Contribute to setting project evaluation parameters
  • Interact with the project sponsor/customer at a tactical level
  • Regularly review and report project progress to senior management and/or the sponsor/customer
  • Solve problems requiring investigation and interpretation
  • Conduct kick off meetings and work initiation processes
  • Attend customer meetings and assist with determination of project requirements
  • Assist in the drafting and issuance of project proposals, tenders, budgets, cash flow, plans, procedures, and preliminary schedules
  • Chair progress/site/closeout meetings as appropriate and distribute minutes to all project team members
  • Track the progress and quality of work being performed by project team members, assuring outputs meet quality standards and capturing lessons learned
  • Use project scheduling and control tools to monitor project plans, work hours, budgets, and expenditures
  • Keep the project sponsor/customer and other stakeholders informed about project status and issues that may impact customer relations, flagging early signs of schedule or budget slippage in order to agree corrective actions
  • Anticipate and take pre-emptive action to address potential conflict situations that may impact on project delivery

Essential

  • Degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
  • Proven experience in a project delivery environment and has gained good team leadership and analytical skills with the ability to influence and communicate at all levels are essential
  • Well-developed scheduling and organisational skills
  • An understanding of metrics and data collection and analysis methods as well as business awareness and ability to develop relationships across the project team to facilitate data collection
  • Basic knowledge and experience of project success and benefits management on small, standard projects
  • Basic knowledge and experience of stakeholder and requirements management
  • Awareness of national and international quality assurance standards
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of work breakdown structures. Awareness of task logic and durations in design, construction, or other relevant activities
  • Awareness of the sources of change on projects and ability to identify change
  • Experienced in the document control/management environment on standard projects and familiar with the use of electronic document management systems
  • Knowledge of operational handover and close-out activities and the importance of meeting the timescales of close-out activities
  • Knowledge of the project management system and reporting activities and the ability to produce relevant project management reports
  • Good knowledge of company standards and practices relating to design safety matters
