Brief Description
Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain. We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway. See the diagram for a breakdown of our services. This role sits within
Electrical Safety Delivery (ESD), which is a network-wide change programme supporting the safe operation and maintenance of our railway, enabling a step change in workforce safety for the industry. The programme is delivering to the industry the safest possible technology, culture, tools, and processes, which will reduce workforce electrical safety risk to as low as reasonably practical and improving workforce safety and productivity. About The Role (External)
We’re looking for an experienced, proactive, project manager with practical business change knowledge to join the Electrical Safety Delivery team.
As the Project Manager, you’ll provide a professional, consistent and effective project management service, enabling the team to successfully deliver projects, as well as your own individual projects. Reporting to the Programme Manager, you’ll manage the delivery of your projects to time, cost and quality in line with PACE methodology and Network Rail company standards and other relevant legislation. You’ll be used to managing projects with a diverse and disparate team, great at networking and utilising your contacts to enable successful delivery. You’ll be expected to deliver an effective service including project monitoring and reporting and support the development of supply strategies and framework contracts.
Key accountabilities include:
- Deliver the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and other specific legislation.
- Provide a professional, first class, consistent and effective project management service to the clients, including project monitoring and reporting systems in accordance with Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and guidelines.
- Participate in the development of supply strategies and framework contracts.
- Provide detailed input for compilation of the business plan and production of the possessions plan.
- Control project change, risks and contingency within the project life cycle and provide all cost, contingency and programme details to enable the Sponsor to obtain authorisation for portfolios/projects.
- Provide a safe working environment in the execution of work directly under the post holder’s responsibility, including development of project safety plans and other associated documentation.
- Identify training needs in safety, technical and management areas for the personnel reporting to the post holder and contribute to their personal development.
- Undertake accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.
- Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.

Essential
- Relevant successful experience in project management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Team leader capable of motivating the team.
- Commercial and financial understanding and knowledge.
- Accident Investigation experience.
Desirable
- Membership of the Association for Project Management or other professional body.
- Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
- Degree or equivalent.
- Knowledge of investment processes and procedures.
- Knowledge and understanding of project and contract management.

Hours: 35 hours per week, with hybrid working and travel as required.
Salary range: £46,701 – £53,589 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Drugs and Alcohol Standard:
